Beautiful location but a little...

Liked: The staff were excellent. Professional, friendly and attentive throughout our stay. The location of the The Royal Oak is fabulous, and at this time of year ( February) Betws y Coed is virtually empty. However, I know during holiday time it's extremely busy, so for me, it's very much a 'choose your visit carefully' place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights , using an offer on Booking.com. Breakfast was not included and we paid at the hotel. There was a good choice of all the usual items you'd find in a hotel like the Oak, but I would imagine it would become tedious if you stayed for longer than a few days. Dinner was very good and the serving staff excellent.
Disliked: The Royal Oak is an iconic hotel and they clearly present the hotel as being somewhere where excellent service and the customer are vitality important. However, we found the room we stayed in (the lodge part of the hotel) , a little 'tired'; more of a Premier Inn with dark woodwork type of room. The bathroom door needed a coat of paint, as it was badly marked and the duvet cover on my bed, had a hole in it, small but still there. The tea tray in the room was as standard, but having stayed in many hotels , I felt this could have had more , such as bottled water, extra milks and a larger selection of drinks. I was somewhat disappointed with the single use plastic cups, again having only last week stayed at a hotel in Barmouth, where glasses were provided in the room as standard. All of these things are small and some may see as 'petty', however when there are so many choices of accommodation in and around Betws y Coed, these small things are important.
