Liked: Perfect location and lovely local experience.
Disliked: No lift, making it not easy for people with luggage

Charming but challenging

Liked: It had great character, the stone and wood beams. And it was just off the Royal Mile by a few feet, so it was quiet, but very convenient.
Disliked: I wasn't crazy about the 69 steps on the spiral stairs, without hand rails up to our room, there were walls on both sides. And I feel this should have been front and center, luckily we didn't have issues, but I could see it being issues for older travelers.

Lovely central location.

Liked: The location was fantastic. The room was small but perfectly formed. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and comfortable.
Disliked: It was a small space and the spiral staircase could be a problem with those with accessibility issues.

Liked: It was a stunning and beautiful location ..great value and we loved it
Disliked: Lack of humans ..we booked online and was a bit of a nightmare trying to contact an actual human to give us entrance details ..I guess it's the world we live in now sadly

Disliked: As advertised, there are lots of stairs so be prepared - not criticising though as we knew that would be the case.

A perfectly comfortable, central base...

Liked: Fabulous location. Well appointed room, tastefully decorated to incorporate the historical elements. Works well when you are out and about all day and the room is just somewhere to sleep. Nice selection of snacks, glasses and tea making facilities, good TV and great WiFi.
Disliked: Ahead of our stay there was a lot of communication which made us dubious about our stay - a lot of information on what they did not do, capital letters, fines etc. We were aware that the accommodation was just a room (up three flights of stairs), with a key box to access and no on-site staff but this all felt OTT and quite aggressive! Even the communication whilst on site (following a fire alarm which went off at 5:30am and went on for over 30 minutes) was not great. It took some time (an email a few hours later) to get any kind of apology, the member of staff just seemed irritated to have been woken up, although we had got no answer for first 15 mins! I queried later that day why the room hadn't been cleaned I was told that they were 'sorry that I expected that'. It may be worth reconsidering the tone of communication when it is all in writing as much of this information could be contained within a guide in the room rather than a barrage of emails and texts prior to the stay. If you are unable to climb steep stairs with your bags, are looking for hotel service and courtesy then this place is not for you - I'm not sure any of this is made clear enough on the Booking.com profile.
