Hotel Description
Located in the picturesque Devonshire town of Illfracombe is the Royal Britannia Hotel. Totally refurbished in 2010 the hotel overlooks the harbor and has 2 restaurants and 2 bars offering cuisine from Northern China Sunday carvery and bar meals. Former notable guests of the hotel include Lord Admiral Nelson and King Edward VII. Rooms at the Royal Britannia feature TVs and tea/coffee making facilities while some have sea views and spa baths. The large restaurant has exposed wooden beams and serves English and international cuisine. There is a carvery with a range of meat and a sea-food menu featuring the fresh catch from Illfracombe harbor. There are two bars serving a wide range of drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Devonshire cream teas are also available for guests to enjoy. The hotel is surrounded by the harbor stunning countryside walks. The golden sandy beaches of Woolacommbe are a haven for surfers and are a 10-minute drive away.

Ok would stay again. But...

Beautiful town let down by...

Liked: The location was good for ilfracombe, nothing else positive to say about the Royal Britannia Hotel.
Disliked: Check in was a disaster, reception area was locked although someone was in there, had to walk around to find a barman who called someone to open it up. It looked like a second hand charity shop in reception with rubbish and odd items everywhere. Very poor directions to room did not advise stair wells out of order due to water leaks. Cleanliness was terrible and the shower had dirty shoe prints inside it. Bed linen awful, bed itself felt unsafe. The whole premises is unsanitary and I’m amazed it’s operating. Obviously just making its money on passing summer trade. Would not ever consider returning to this hotel.

Liked: Breakfast was value for money .Staff friendly.
Disliked: Room 34 shower room was step up to get in so need to be careful coming out also toilet very close to sink Anyone with disability or larger dimensions could have problems.

Great location but Mould on...

Liked: Location is great that's about it
Disliked: Room 14 was dirty on arrival window ledges, bath area, mould on ceiling bathroom Health Risk !!! Even welcome brohure food stained yuk.. CEILING FAN NOT WORK , TV CHANNELS NO RECEPTION not able to use. Avoided breakfast chef fag in mouth not for me UNHYGIENIC.

lovely location.

Liked: Bed was comfortable an nice clean linen and towels.
Disliked: The bedroom carpet was quite badly stained and is in need of a good clean.

Great location

Liked: Loved the location, right by the harbour. We had a sea view from our room. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Great place

Liked: Love staying here, location and rooms are great. Will be staying again.
Disliked: Bar staff are unwelcoming and quite rude. Bed was very squeaky and woke me up everytime I moved (room 10).
