Outstanding stay, disappointing dining
Liked: The Mansion is a unique property to which I have returned over and over. It is impeccably organized and architecturally exquisite.
Disliked: The award-winning restaurant has fallen on hard times. The wait-service is not what it used to be. The cooking is just plain "off." They lost a chef who put them on the map and have not invested in reclaiming their place as the best meal in Dallas.

The staff are so uniquely...
Liked: Surprise welcome cake and tea from the hotel delivered to my room shortly after arrival. The restaurant is always spectacular.
Disliked: I have always wished this hotel had a cozy, quiet, and well-decorated parlor or library (common area) for guests to hang out, read, or write correspondence in. Since this hotel used to be a private residence, you'd think this would be available. The reception-area lounge is too open to traffic and the bar is too noisy. The original library is now part of the restaurant!

Rooms are dated but service...
Liked: Staff is friendly and accommodating. Bar area is beautiful and has a nice scene to it.
Disliked: The rooms and bathroom are dated. Lots of airplanes fly over hotel area. The minibar was completely empty on arrival but they gave a key to the fridge...
