Set in secluded 20-acre grounds the Roman Camp Country House Hotel is set on the banks of River Teith in scenic Callander Village. It offers luxurious rooms private fishing pools and an award-winning restaurant 15 miles from Stirling. Dating back to 1625 the building is filled with original period features. Individually designed rooms with attached bathroom include an LCD satellite TV tea and coffee making facilities bathrobes and a hairdryer. Some rooms also feature spa baths and lounges areas. The Roman Camp serves a full cooked breakfast daily. The restaurant has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes and serves modern cuisine featuring locally sourced shellfish and meat. Lunch and dinner are served in the charming dining rooms with scenic garden views. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea in the oak-paneled library and drawing room and the property also has a secret chapel. Free fishing is available in the 2 private pools and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is ideal for walking golf and sailing. Glasgow and Edinburgh are around 1 hour's drive away.

The food, service and decor...

Liked: Everything, it was a rare gem of a find and felt like a luxurious stately home, with the cosiest atmosphere and ambience.

Scottish Hospitality at its Best!

Liked: Exceptional stay, great welcome, excellent staff, very comfortable bedroom with all the little touches that matter, delicious ' Grand Afternoon Tea' & Fine Dining in the Restaurant at its best! Fantastic hosts in Eric & Marion Brown, can't recommend highly enough & can't wait to return. Thank you.

One night stay for couple

Liked: Surroundings and fire places in the lounges. History of hotel and the original features.
Disliked: Restaurant (bistro) fully booked and no offer of an alternative. Bar prices were high. Shower was very dated and didn't work correctly.

A bit disappointing.

Liked: Interesting old building. Breakfast was nice. Bistro food was good.
Disliked: Very dark and cramped room. No central light. No help with luggage up a tricky staircase. Information not obvious. Reception staff ignored us at first as was chatting on phone so hardly a warm welcome.
