Passable
Liked: The room was modern, well equipped, and seemed clean enough. The air conditioning was a welcome addition during a spell of very hot weather.
Disliked: From the outset, we had problems. The add said there was free parking on site, but only after booking did it become apparent that this referred to a small handful of public parking bays on the road outside, which are shared with several other busy pubs and restuarants. For guarnateed parking, we had to pay a 3rd party firm to use one of the bays behind the guest house. There were no staff on site when we arrived, and we were not given a code for the door prior to arrival. When phoning the contact number, the staff were very short with us, and would not accept that we had not received a code. They did eventually relent and give us the code, but it was hard work just to get in.The location was less than ideal, with the beer garden from an adjacent pub-restaurant being located right outside of our window. If you want to go to sleep before last-orders, forget it.The wifi was not working for the duration of our stay. It was possible to sign in to the wifi with the details provided, but it just said "Internet not available". In addition, local mobile reception was very poor, meaning we were virtually cut-off from the outside world, for the duration of our stay, which is ridiculous when you consider Ely is an actual city.TV reception was intermittent, on all channels, rendering the TV almost useless. With no WiFi, it wasn't even possible to stream anything. We found black mould in the coffee machine water tank, which is disgusting. The bath/shower did not drain properly, so even after a short shower, you were standing in a couple of inches of dirty water. The breakfast room was tiny, and we felt really uncomfortable, even squeezing in with just a small handful of other guests. The breakfast was pleasant enough, but certainly not outstanding. There were sufficient component parts to assemble a half-English (as opposed to a full-English), which we had to supplement with an awkward assortment of cereal and croissants.
