Comfort & Charm Near the Heart of Spalding

A quaint and welcoming bed and breakfast, River Lodge B&B Ltd is nestled in the charming town of Spalding, just under 20 miles from live music hotspots in Peterborough. With its classic décor, relaxed vibe, and easygoing atmosphere, this riverside retreat is a great choice for music fans looking for a homely base before or after a show.
Guests enjoy free WiFi, a shared lounge area for pre- or post-gig chats, and comfortable rooms with flat-screen TVs to wind down after a night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located just a short drive from Peterborough’s concert venues, River Lodge B&B Ltd offers a quieter spot to return to after the show. The peaceful surroundings make it ideal for a good night’s sleep without the bustle of city nightlife. While public transport options may be limited late at night, the property is well-suited for those with their own car or rideshare plans. The helpful staff and flexible check-in from 14:30 mean you can settle in before heading out.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a cozy, affordable base
  • Solo travelers catching a long-awaited gig
  • Couples planning a peaceful weekend around a show
  • Fans who prefer a quiet night’s sleep post-concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want comfort without the price tag

Food and Drink Options

Guests rave about the hearty Full English/Irish and vegetarian breakfasts, perfect after a late night. While there's no on-site restaurant for dinner, Spalding offers walkable dining spots nearby. Late-night bites may require some planning ahead, but the central location gives you flexibility if you're out and about before the show.

Nightlife Options

Although the B&B itself doesn’t offer on-site entertainment, you’ll find local pubs and bars in Spalding for a pre-show drink or a relaxed evening. For more vibrant nightlife, Peterborough’s music and bar scene is just a short drive away.

What People Say

Reviewers love the friendly service, clean and comfy rooms, and great breakfast. Many appreciate the quiet atmosphere and the helpful staff who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. It’s often described as great value for money and a solid choice for a short stay.

Areas for Improvement

The property doesn’t offer late-night food or drink service, and early check-out at 10:00 might feel a touch too early after a big night. Also, guests without a car may find travel to and from concerts a bit tricky—but a little planning goes a long way.

The Bottom Line

A peaceful, friendly spot with great breakfasts and solid comfort, River Lodge B&B Ltd is ideal for concert-goers who want a restful retreat after the show.

Tolerated, not welcomed.

Disliked: I stayed at River Lodge for two nights in June 2025. I had just completed a 180-mile drive to finish a house move and was looking for a quiet, supportive base to recover before heading home. Unfortunately, the stay was uncomfortable from the outset.Check-in issuesI followed the instructions to call ahead on arrival, but no one answered. The phone rang until it went to voicemail — indicating there was signal. When the manager eventually arrived, she didn’t apologise. Instead, she opened with: “That wasn’t a very nice message, was it?” — which I found unnecessarily passive-aggressive and dismissive.Staircase safetyThis property is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. The staircase is steep and narrow, and the lighting does not activate until halfway up. This created a genuine safety concern when carrying bags in low light.Cleanliness & upkeepThere was stagnant water in the kettle, and the shower caddy was rusted — both signs of poor maintenance and a lack of proper cleaning between guests.Wi-FiThere was no Wi-Fi code provided in the room, and no usable network connection appeared available — despite using an up-to-date iPhone. This left me without access throughout the stay and relying on mobile data.Price discrepancyI booked through Booking.com, where the listed rate for my room was £90. I was charged £130 on arrival — a £40 difference that was never explained. This added unnecessary frustration to an already disappointing stay.BreakfastThe breakfast was freshly cooked and appreciated, but the portion was quite small, and the single-hour window (07:30–08:30) felt rigid — especially for guests recovering from travel or managing health issues.⸻This stay left me feeling managed, not welcomed. After a long drive and difficult week, I expected professional hospitality — not veiled judgement and poor service. With clearer communication, better upkeep, and more accessible facilities, this could be a good place to stay.

Brilliant for an overnight stop...

Liked: Their flexibility.I arrived way earlier than expected, but the lady who checked me in could not have been more caccomodating. There were problems with the fire alarm. The staff worked to resolve it fast as they could.
Disliked: It was fine.I didn't need anything complex, I was there for one night only.I enjoyed the visit and would go back in a heartbeat.

Wonderful owners and great hosts

Liked: The feeling of the property was so much like the feeling from home and the hospitality was excellent because the hosts were very friendly and welcoming people who were just deputising their River Lodge B&B manager. Who was dealing with the most difficult situation in terms of their home being burned out, that alone is the testimony of the people who they are.
Disliked: The beauty in all aspects of it including the location which makes it so beautiful and unique.

Book in, relax, enjoy.

Liked: The breakfast was well cooked and plentiful. The hotel is just a short walk from town. It was all easy, I book in, I relax, that's it, no fuss.
Disliked: I cannot think of anything I didn't like .
