Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and River Hotel nails it. You're just a short walk or cab ride from many of Chicago’s top music venues, making it easy to soak in the city’s legendary music scene without stressing about late-night transport. The hotel offers 24-hour concierge service, ideal for those needing help with directions or last-minute tickets. Its central location means quick access to late-night bites, and the peaceful rooms ensure a quiet night's sleep once you're back. Plus, the 12:00 PM check-out gives you a little more time to recover after a night out.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish, central crash pad
  • Solo travelers catching a long-awaited show
  • Couples planning a concert-filled weekend getaway
  • Fans who want a quieter space to decompress post-concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want boutique touches

Food and Drink Options

While River Hotel doesn’t have a dedicated restaurant, it makes up for it with room service and an on-site market for grab-and-go options. You’re also steps away from dozens of downtown eateries, many open late. With the hotel’s central spot, finding a hearty breakfast or a midnight burger is never a problem.

Nightlife Options

You're in downtown Chicago—nightlife is never far. Head out to nearby bars and lounges along the riverfront or explore rooftops with live DJs. Prefer to keep it low-key? Chill with a drink at a nearby cocktail bar or return to your room for a cozy night in with skyline views.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the location, calling it unbeatable for both sightseeing and show-going. Reviews also highlight the spotless rooms, fast WiFi, and modern design. Many mention the hotel’s quiet atmosphere, even in the center of the city, as a huge bonus after a night of music.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that rooms can be on the smaller side, especially if you're traveling with lots of gear. Also, while room service is available, the lack of a full-service on-site restaurant may be a downside for those hoping to dine in.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting a stylish, centrally located hotel with a calm vibe and easy access to Chicago’s music scene, the River Hotel strikes the right chord.

Kellie, visiting The Cubby Bear

Liked: Excellent customer service and clean. The price was stellar for staying downtown. Appreciated the free luggage check the following day so we could explore downtown.

Matthew, Montgomery, visiting CIBC Theatre

At the time of our arrival, the Memorial Day parade was being staged in the vicinity of the hotel. It would seem a courtesy e-mail or text could have been sent to suggest alternate routes or advise of street closing/opening. It would seem that all of the information required is at your fingertips.

Liked: Staff was very accommodating and pleasant. Location was convenient for any plans - blocks away from anything you could want to do.
Disliked: Containers for ice were difficult to acquire. Perhaps placing one per room and extras at the ice station would work better.

I came into town for a concert and was pleased with the hotel overall.

Liked: Very nice staff and clean.
Disliked: The room was very small - almost as if one room was cut in thirds.

This was a second visit...

Liked: The location is very convenient for many attractions in the city. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and helpful.
Disliked: Unfortunately, there was an issue with the elevators during our stay so the wait was longer than usual. The employees were pleasant and tried to make the best of it.

Pleasant

Liked: Location is pretty good.
Disliked: We made a reservation for 3 people (1 adult and 2 kids - 14 and 9 years old). The room has 1 queen bed (that is fine) and 1 sofa, which was dirty when we opened it to sleep.

Unfussy good old fashioned hotel...

Liked: Great location, fantastic team - special shout out to Jock, Pedro and Ronnie who are a great example of how to do hospitality. Our room was perfect for our group of 4 adults and a child - we booked a 2 bedroom suite which also had a sofa bed, 2 bathrooms and decent kitchen appliances. I liked that the bathroom had big refillable bottles of decent amenities, and also a filtered water filling station with refillable bottles by the elevator - nice to see some efforts towards sustainability. The hotel is in a beautiful old building over the road from the river with its riverfront walk, bars and boat trips. It’s a short walk to the millennium park, giordinis for Chicago deep pan pizza and… who knew, the world’s first (and only) Nutella cafe (which my daughter loved). Checkout wasn’t until 12 which was nice and we could leave our bags in a locked storage room. Also we arrived an hour or so before official check in time which was a nice bonus.
