The Spotlight on Risley Hall Hotel

Historic Escape with Easy Access to Nottingham’s Music Venues

Modern music meets medieval charm at Risley Hall Hotel, an 11th-century Saxon country house nestled in 10 acres of tranquil private grounds. Just over 8 miles from Nottingham city centre and within easy reach of major venues, this peaceful retreat blends period elegance with contemporary comfort. With 16 unique bedrooms in the main house and 19 generously sized suites in the Willoughby Court wing, there's space for every kind of concert-goer.

Why Concert-goers love it

Risley Hall Hotel offers the perfect balance between easy access to Nottingham’s live music scene and a quiet countryside getaway. After a night of dancing and singing along, guests appreciate the calm atmosphere and comfy beds. While it's not right in the city centre, the drive is short and scenic, and parking is free—ideal if you're road-tripping to see your favourite band. The historic setting adds a unique twist to your concert weekend.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to stay together in roomy suites
  • Solo travellers seeking a memorable place to crash after a big show
  • Couples turning a concert night into a romantic weekend
  • Fans who need a quiet spot to recharge post-gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers wanting value without sacrificing style

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant serves up seasonal dishes and an excellent wine list—great for pre-show dining or post-show indulgence. While there's no 24/7 room service, the bar stays open for a nightcap, and the peaceful breakfast setting is perfect after a late night. There are also several dining options just a short drive away if you're craving something specific.

Nightlife Options

The hotel itself doesn’t have live music, but you’re close enough to Nottingham's buzzing nightlife to enjoy the action. After the concert, head for a late drink in town or relax at the hotel bar with a glass of wine in hand. It’s a great spot to relive the best moments of the gig.

What People Say

Guests love the charming and historic atmosphere, describing the rooms as spacious and character-filled. Reviews often mention the helpful staff, peaceful surroundings, and the feeling of staying somewhere truly unique. Many mention it’s an ideal spot for a special occasion or a relaxing break after a night out in Nottingham.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the decor in parts of the hotel could benefit from a refresh, and the Wi-Fi coverage isn’t always perfect in every room. Also, since it’s outside the city centre, you’ll need to plan transport—but the extra peace and quiet are worth it.

The Bottom Line

Risley Hall Hotel is a serene, character-rich base for concert-goers who want to pair their gig with a touch of countryside charm and a great night’s sleep.

An affordable place for easy-going...

Liked: This is definitely the place to stay if you're very easy-going and appreciate that the hotel is under refurbishment! It's full of character, our room was huge with a large bathroom and a comfortable bed. We liked opening the large sash window to hear the birds. The young lady on reception was super helpful. There's a garden for a wander or sitting in the sunshine. Safe off-road parking.
Disliked: There was no food or refreshments available but we knew this so had taken a cool bag with milk, cereals and enough food for a picnic so it didn't bother us. A pub five minutes walk away serves breakfasts and full meals, with a lovely beer garden! Obviously the hotel is a work in progress but we are quite laid-back and appreciated the low cost of accommodation.

DO NOT STAY HERE until...

Liked: Lovely property (or was before the refurbishment started) and in a great location.
Disliked: There is ongoing building/refurbishment work taking place. The restaurant is closed so no food is available, including if breakfast, even though I paid for bed & breakfast. Was informed by email about 3 days before the stay that the restaurant was closed. Requested a refund for breakfast through booking and was told to email the general manager. I did this but after 3 weeks had no reply and no refund. The same applied to the rest of our group who stayed there.
