Awful, would not recommend

Liked: Nothing
Disliked: We were given 4 days notice of no facilities on site, despite booking 6 months previously. The rooms were not clean, windows wouldn't shut, we moved rooms 3 times! And even then, the bathroom smelt of sewage. The shower was disgusting and green. Several breaches of health and safety and fire regulations throughout the hotel.

Passable

Liked: I have stayed at Risley Hall quite a few times as it was a good price for a once a month visit to the area for work. I have always enjoyed it's somewhat quirky, old world charm and closed my eyes to the run down parts as I found the Fawlty Towers-esque feel entertaining. Things appear to be changing with new owners and I won't be staying here again.
Disliked: Over my last three stays it has gone from having a good hot buffet breakfast, to being told quite rudely that it was continental breakfast only, to being told before my last stay that they are now a room only hotel with no breakfast option at all. There used to be a very friendly girl that did the evening reception for check in. Now there is no one on the reception and you have to phone a mobile number and wait for someone to come and check you in. The prices have gone up, which means it's not as good value especially for room only. I was told that the new owners are renovating (and to be fair it did need some improvements) but the last couple of stays have felt like paying more and getting less, so I won't stay here again.

Very poor

Liked: The bed was comfortable. On a bus route into Nottingham with a good regular service. Thankfully there was a very nice pub 3 minutes walk away.
Disliked: No facilities or food, only drinks were tea and coffee in room and not enough for the length of stay. Only advised 4 days before visit that the hotel was now room only when booking had been made 5 months in advance. Too late to look elsewhere. Shower screen had no seal so water easily ran onto bathroom floor. The bathroom extractor fan did not work. The building is undergoing renovation and should not be accepting bookings until this has been completed. The room was very warm even with radiators turned off. The window safety catch was broken.
