Disappointed!
Liked: The hotel was a charming, ancient building. Lots of magazines like Country Life both up and downstairs for you to read.
Disliked: The room was disappointing and smelt awful as it was above the kitchens and the extractors permeated it with the smell of cooking. Very small and old fashioned room, no where to put anything. Other rooms I peeked in where absolute palaces in comparison to ours, wondered what we'd done wrong! The wait at dinner was ridiculously long and surprising as we were actual guests staying two nights and had booked this in advance! Sat down at 7.30, got starters at 8.20pm ( 50 mins wait) and Mains at 8.43pm ( 1hr and 13 mins.) My husband ate his main in 4 mins flat he was so hungry! Very limited menu, this is not a Burger and Chips kind of place, so please check the Sample Menu on their website which will make things clear. We were aware of the type of menu when we booked. just not the time it would take to serve it. Why take bookings if you cannot fulfill them? All other places we stayed at on our trip were booked through Booking.Com, they all included breakfast and all were the same price, sadly the Rhydspence fell far short in comparison.

Warm welcome to this beautiful...
Liked: Quaint, authentic, superb food, log fire, comfy bed, friendly and helpful staff.
Disliked: Did not dislike anything. Room decor is probably on to do list but essentials of comfort and friendly reception were first rate and high quality of food was a real bonus.

Liked: Loved how the Pub still has it charm, the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Clean rooms and tasty breakfast. Would stay again.
Disliked: Taxi fares are a little pricey for the short journey into Hay on Wye but no public transport.

Outstanding service and great food...
Liked: The building is full of character and has a history going back to the 1385. We were made welcome by the owners who ensured we enjoyed our stay. In the evenings there is a great atmosphere in the bar being popular with the locals. As for the food it’s top quality restaurant standard. Without doubt this is the best place to stay in the area we are going to stay again in the summer
Disliked: Nothing

Totally recommend this Hotel, from...
Liked: Everything!!! From a very warm welcome from the owners, who upgraded our stay before we had even arrived, to the superb breakfast. The building was warm and inviting, the room beautifully clean and cosy. The slightly sloping floor added some jollity to the stay. The open fire in the bar was lovely and added to the cosy atmosphere. The bar was busy with locals who were enjoying having a well stocked and friendly pub nearby. We will definitely be going back at the earliest opportunity.
Disliked: Can't think of anything negative to say, apart from the lower car park being muddy from the recent rainfall, but that is hardly anyone's fault.

Wood framed hotel with lovely...
Liked: The hotel is a fourteenth century wood framed building with a lovely log fire in the bar with locals in having a pint. Really comfortable friendly feel to the place. I also really liked the location, just off the main road but quiet enough to hear lovely loud birdsong.
