As we only went here...

Liked: The grounds are beautiful and the food was good
Disliked: The outdoor pool is sadly lacking in number of sunbeds and no poolside service. They expect you to go dripping wet to the bar in the main hotel for drinks and can’t take any payment by the pool as sadly lacking in modern day technology. The pool is it’s best feature and yet it is poorly managed

Will come back for food...

Liked: The location of the hotel, the surrounding forest, the service, the facilities, and the restaurants were all excellent.
Disliked: However, our family room faced east and was very hot throughout the day. The provided air-conditioning was inadequate and could not cool the room at all during hot weather. Installing a standalone wall mounted air-conditioning unit would probably be much more effective. In addition, the placement of the air-conditioning unit in the family room was very poorly designed: when turned on, it blew directly at our heads, which caused headaches, and there was no way to adjust the direction of the airflow. We also had issues with the sink taps in our room. When turned to the cold side, the water initially came out scalding hot. Each time we wanted to wash our hands, we had to wait about a minute for the water to cool down. The drainage in the shower was also very slow, leaving a large pool of water after every shower.Additionally, there was an unpleasant smell in the toilet, which seemed to be a drainage issue as well.

Incredible gounds, building and hotel,...

Liked: The building and grounds are incredible. Brilliant staff, especially Jerry, Robert, and Hermione. Amazing food in both restaurants, nice drinks. Tranquil gardens and pond. Spa on site is really nice. Peaceful location with deer wandering the grounds and beautiful pine forests literally on your doorstep, no traffic or sound other than nature. Pools really good, outdoor pool was heated and clean. Building full of art and photos, including some from 1890 of the building being constructed, fascinating and a nice touch. Alhambra room amazing, and conservatory really nice too.
Disliked: Bed far too small - a double is not big enough for two adults and at a premium price like this, all rooms should have super kings. Mattress also way too hard, woke with backache both mornings. Pillows useless, overly soft things, however I now expect useless pillows in hotels so brought my own! Upshot of all this though is I did not get a single good nights sleep and never felt well rested, which should be the most basic function of a hotel. Had to knock off some points for that.Air con smelled of mould whenever we turned it on, and the filter was super dusty. We told staff and I was told maintenance would look at it the next day, not sure if they did but it made zero difference. Clearly do not maintain or clean the air con like they should. Again, for a premium priced hotel, having dirty air con is not acceptable.Bath plug partially blocked and filled with water when we showered, we told staff and to their credit they must have fixed it as it went away the next day.
