Modern, boutique-style and vibrant, the Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel places you in one of the city's most iconic neighborhoods. Just steps from the Apollo Theater and a short subway ride to Central Park and other major music venues, this 3-star hotel blends cultural flair with traveler-friendly amenities. Why Concert-goers love it

Whether you’re catching a show at a Harlem club or taking the subway downtown to Madison Square Garden, this hotel’s location makes it easy. You're within walking distance of local live music staples, and thanks to the nearby train lines, late-night returns are a breeze. The 24-hour front desk and flexible check-out at 12:00 PM mean you can sleep in after a late night. Plus, free WiFi and room service make post-concert wind-downs effortless.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends heading out for a Harlem jazz night or uptown concert
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list artists and looking for a safe, stylish base
  • Couples making a weekend of it with music, culture, and food
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space than midtown chaos
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want style and location

Food and Drink Options

There’s an on-site restaurant and bar perfect for pre-show bites or post-show drinks. While there’s no mention of 24/7 room service, the hotel's room service and terrace dining add convenience. Harlem’s food scene is right outside your door—think late-night soul food, Caribbean spots, and trendy cafes. Breakfast options are available and ideal for a lazy morning after the encore.

Nightlife Options

Harlem is buzzing with live music, from intimate jazz bars to larger venues. The hotel’s own bar is a great place to kick off your night, and you're close to legendary spots like the Apollo Theater and newer lounges serving up craft cocktails with a side of soul. Looking for more? A quick ride downtown opens up NYC’s full nightlife scene.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel’s modern design and Harlem location, often praising the friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Reviewers highlight the easy access to public transport and the hotel’s relaxing rooftop terrace. Many mention it as a great base for exploring the area and catching live performances.

Areas for Improvement

A few guests note that the hotel can be busy during weekends, especially when events are happening nearby. Some rooms may lack views depending on location, and while stylish, the hotel isn’t packed with luxury extras. But honestly, if you’re here for the music, it hits the right notes.

The Bottom Line

A vibrant, comfortable base in the heart of Harlem—perfect for concert-goers who want style, substance, and easy access to NYC’s best venues.

Wasn’t a great experience because...

Liked: The price was good and the breakfast was very good. Staff were very nice
Disliked: The hall ways by our room was very dirty, crumbs everywhere leading up to ours and the surrounding rooms by 801. Tub was very dirty with dried soap scum all over the bottom. Long hairs in the bed sheets under the cover. Counters were gross and had gunk all over it. Both shower towels had brown particles and gunk on parts of them

Very nice aesthetic but fails...

Liked: Hotel has a very nice aesthetic and some accommodating staff
Disliked: • The room did not have a mini fridge, which I would figure would be a staple in 4+ star hotels. The staff did accommodate and provided one, but it was weird it wasn't already in there.• The water was shut off one night without any notice, and the front desk seemed to be unaware of the issue. No apology was issued. They just expected us to deal with it.• The room's curtains were powered by hydrolics, which were malfunctioning. The dark shade couldn't be moved up, resulting in a very dark room. I addressed room service the first night, but it was NEVER rectified.• The hotel caters very much to a very rowdy party crowd, and there's a lot of going on in the lobby to the point it's a fire hazard with people crowding in front of the elevator. It takes a long time to get an elevator with the hotel reserving one of the elevators for their rooftop bar.• The absolute WORST part is their accounting and how confusing and shady they bill you. Booking through a third party, I understand that the staff may have limited jurisdiction and information on the payment processing, but it was very clear that I was paying a specific price for the stay. I was billed for the entire stay up front with an additional security deposit during check-in. I had no problem with that as long as there were no surprise charges during or after the stay.. They randomly tried to bill me a random value in the middle of the night of the night during my stay. I addressed it to the reception and accounting, and they were telling me that was normal. I've stayed at MANY hotels and can confirm that is NOT normal. I did not acquire any additional charges or bill anything to the room. Any additional charges should be addressed during check out.It was suspicious that I was getting randomly billed. My bank did not approve that charge since I was not familiar with it. The value was very different from the rate of the stay and what I was billed.

Liked: The Harlem Renaissance Hotel has team members who are essential to the cohesion and proper functioning of the establishment. Some people truly stand out for their kindness and professionalism.A big thank you to Jayden for all the care given to our orders, and to the smiling Argentinian man whose warmth was truly appreciated. But an enormous and heartfelt thank you goes to Althia — exceptional, always attentive, understanding, and profoundly human — precious qualities in the service industry. And not to forget Tiko, who speaks French and was incredibly helpful throughout our stay.So congratulations to HR for recruiting such remarkable people. We sincerely hope you value them and keep them as part of your team.
Disliked: i was extremely apprehensive after reading the reviews,But I gathered all my courage when I saw an interesting promotion and made the reservation:With an advanced check-up,After a delayed flight,Three hours at customs,Broken suitcases...And as if my troubles and suffering weren’t enough,I was informed by the hotel receptionist that our reservation — which was confirmed — had been canceled after all (I strongly suspected overbooking, since the hotel was full). On top of that, they had no alternative solution except offering another hotel for $600 a night without transportation and asking me to make a new reservation myself. So here I was with my friend (her first trip to the US), four large suitcases and three small ones, trying to find a car with maximum capacity.Being capable women, we gathered our courage again and did what had to be done: we booked the cheapest hotel we could find — $317 (and let me tell you, that hurt — deeply — not just in the wallet). To that, we added $65 for transportation.I made a new reservation through Booking.com, including a check-in request for 12:00 PM and made sure with the reception that everything was confirmed, including the registration of my credit card, etc.I came back as planned, and was told it would finally be ready at 2:30 PM — so I waited.I checked again, only to be told it still wasn’t ready. I went out to do some shopping, came back... and guess what? Still no room ready.I think I finally dropped my bags off in the room around 5:00 PM.The night before our departure, we had requested a luggage pick-up for 1:00 AM. Unfortunately, no one showed up.We had to call reception and someone simply brought a cart. However, we do want to highlight several positive points.
