That said, WSHS is a...
Liked: I recently stayed at WSHS in Gouda for the second time, having visited two years ago as well. I’m happy to say that the hotel remains just as beautiful and charming as I remember. The design is stunning, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the staff are incredibly kind and welcoming — they truly make you feel at home.
Disliked: However, I was quite disappointed with the breakfast this time. Unfortunately, it has noticeably declined in quality compared to my previous visit. At €25 per person, I expected a much higher standard. In fact, I believe there are more satisfying options available at a lower price in other, even more modest hotels. For the same amount, a visit to a local café or even Starbucks would have provided better value.

Disliked: Shower didn’t drain well so had to ask for extra floor towels so it would not run into room. Also, thought about eating in the restaurant because it looked so nice, but they’re was never anyone there. Always empty.

Superb
Liked: Everything apart from the below...
Disliked: Only thing that stopped me giving a 10 was the refusal for a second struhwaffel on departure (felt a bit restrictive!)

Underwhelming.
Liked: Great location.
Disliked: We booked this property months in advance and let them know it was for our wedding weekend — which is exactly why I purposely booked the suite. When I arrived with three suitcases and a bunch of totes (all wedding-related stuff), the receptionist saw me struggling through the glass doors and didn’t even come to help. I accidentally slammed the door (it had no hinges), and instead of greeting me, she said, “Can you close the door? It’s really cold in here.” I was standing right in front of her with all my bags — no welcome, no assistance, just that.To make it worse, the room they originally gave us was a duplex — definitely not what I booked, and nowhere near big enough for my makeup artist, photographer, and bridesmaids. We had to go back to reception and ask to be moved to the actual suite we reserved. Still, not even a card or a small gesture to say “Happy wedding weekend.” Nothing. The staff were shockingly untrained. The night before the wedding, I called reception for two very basic things: 1. A toothbrush (which I was told, “I don’t think we have those.”) 2. Breakfast to be delivered to the room, since I had to start getting ready at 6:30 AM. All they could offer were two boiled eggs and a cup of tea — yet the next morning at the buffet, I saw plenty of bottled yogurts, pastries, etc.And then, the final touch — we came back to our room after our wedding reception, and the bed was completely unmade. Housekeeping had come in and changed the towels but left the bed a mess. So yes, we spent our wedding night making our own bed.I hope the property can understand that a hotel is not just the rooms. It is mostly the people and the service.

Liked: Gorgeous boutique hotel and great location
Disliked: We were phoned to check our arrival but they did not mention that there was a private function so we’re unable to use the bar or restaurant

lovely hotel, but its lacking...
Liked: The historic building and location within Gouda were amazing. Lovely room with comfortable bed & shower.
Disliked: There is no bar or restaurant available sunday till tuesday. This is very disappointing, knowing it is a high end hotel. At least have a bar available.Breakfast had 2 option; basic or 'a la carte'. basic gave minimum option, 'a la carte' contained the egg omelet/ pancakes, etc which you expect to be available in a basic breakfast. Not for double the price.
