Red Lion, Adderbury. Olde Inn,...
Liked: The Red Lion is an ancient building, as are many in Adderbury, and the staircases are twisty! The central heating was not working, but fan and convector heaters kept it warm, if not toasty. I had an interesting room with a bathroom that was up a full flight of stairs, so, interesting at night! A good wardrobe, which is something I like, with plenty of luggage storage space. Would I go back? Yes. Would I have the same room? Only if there was nothing else. Having said that, the room and Bathroom were good. The Shower worked well, which is frequently problematic. The Breakfast is good, with plenty of choice and of fine quality. You will not go away hungry if you eat the Full Breakfast! Could be more, better quality coffee, freshly made and hotter. The Red Lion is part of Greene King, so the menu is the same as all the Greene King hotels; I will say that there is good Chocolate ice cream. Real ale choice is limited to Greene King IPA and Speckled Hen, but both were good when I stayed. There are three other pubs in Adderbury, a Hook Norton Pub with good beer (The Bell) , a food pub which had Hooky and Landlord on while I was there. (The Pickled Ploughman) Very good food, I had superb duck breast there. The Coach and Horses is the last pub, and possibly the oldest, which is Wadworths, but the beer was indifferent at best when I visited and I cannot currently recommend it. It may be in a transitional state. The staff were extremely good and helpful with one exception. Anything that was needed was provided if possible, and help was available as necessary. Finally, an excellent, secure Car Park, but the entry is narrow, so don't expect to take your Winnebago through it.Would I stay there again? Yes, I look forward to it.
Disliked: The heating was not working, so it was cold even with a convection heater. I bought a fan heater, which warmed the room up more quickly, but with everyone using heaters the electricity tripped out sometimes. This was not helped when a wall next to the car park collapsed and may have compromised the electricity supply. The upstairs bathroom was annoying rather than problematic, and it was a good bathroom. I was surprised by one thing. There were no, repeat NO, complimentary toiletries provided, no soap, shampoo, conditioner, anything. This is the first time I have stayed in a hotel, that this has happened. I always have my own, so again this was annoying rather than problematic, but it did surprise me.
