Modern country charm meets upscale relaxation at Ramside Hall Hotel Golf & Spa, nestled within a stunning 350-acre estate just outside Durham. With elegant rooms, championship golf courses, and a full-service spa, this hotel is a peaceful escape that still puts you close to the action. Located just off the A1(M), it's a short drive to Durham city and a smooth ride to Newcastle’s buzzing concert venues.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans appreciate the hotel’s quiet countryside setting after a loud night out, with easy access to venues in Durham and Newcastle via car or taxi. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, giving you time to settle in before heading to your gig, and the 11:00 AM checkout means no rush the next morning. Whether you're arriving late or heading back after a show, the road connections make late-night returns a breeze.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends splitting a spacious room or suite
Solo travelers indulging in a spa day before the show
Couples planning a relaxing weekend around a concert night
Fans needing a quiet recovery space after dancing all night
Budget-conscious music lovers who value space and amenities

Food and Drink Options

With four restaurants on-site, including the award-winning Rib Room Steakhouse & Grill and pan-Asian Fusion, you won’t go hungry. Pemberton's Carvery serves classic British fare all day, and informal bites are available at the Clubhouse. While there's no 24/7 room service, options run late enough for post-concert cravings, and breakfast is available for those slow, post-gig mornings.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about tranquil luxury than late-night parties, the lounge bars serve up drinks in a refined atmosphere. For those wanting more buzz, Durham and Newcastle's nightlife is a short taxi ride away, offering everything from pubs to live music venues and dance clubs.

What People Say

Guests frequently praise the hotel’s exceptional spa and spacious rooms, with many noting the peaceful setting and high-end feel. The friendly staff and convenient location near Durham also earn top marks. The Rib Room and spa treatments get repeated shout-outs for quality.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that spa access to certain areas like the hydro-pool is limited unless you're on a spa package, so pre-booking treatments is recommended. During busy times, pool time may be capped to one hour, so plan accordingly. Wi-Fi can be patchy in some areas, but most guests still find it sufficient for basic needs.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers looking to unwind in style while staying within reach of Durham and Newcastle’s music venues, Ramside Hall Hotel Golf & Spa offers the perfect mix of comfort, cuisine, and convenience.

Really pleasant

Liked: Rooms were lovely and spacious, beds very comfortable. Good location as we were attending a wedding in Murton. The fillet steak in the Rib restaurant was first class.
Disliked: Some of the staff were a little miserable at breakfast, but we would still stay here again.

Does not come up to...

Liked: The room was bigger than I expected and so was the bed. The staff were also very helpful and polite at all times. The swimming pool was a great size, jacuzzi was lovely, as was the sauna.
Disliked: ROOM: The room was quite dated and shabby. The standard lampshade and one of the bedside lampshades did not fit/were not secured so were constantly tipping and looked awful. There were two different types of lightbulbs in the bedside lamps, i.e. one was a daylight bulb and one was a warm light bulb. The desk lamp did not work and neither did the main ceiling light in the entrance hallway of the room. Someone came to try and rectify this, but he had to bring a second desk lamp and could not fix the ceiling light so I could not use the full length mirror properly as it was too dark (plus this was in completely the wrong place). The wardrobe was very old and rickety with a rail that was too low so I could not hang up my long wedding guest dress properly. The sheets on the bed seemed too small and were pulling off the mattress after just one sleep. The pillow cases didn't fit the pillows properly. I had a lovely big window which overlooked the carpark, but only blackout curtains so when opened, anyone and everyone could see in - these windows need some kind privacy curtains/voiles so you can enjoy the daylight but with some privacy! SPA: As a guest of the hotel, I was only allowed to use the swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room. Full access to the spa facilities are reserved for members and Spa Day people only!! This is not acceptable.BREAKFAST: Basic, not very hot, and not the variety on offer that you would expect for the price of the stay. I also had a burger and chips the night before, and whilst the burger was really good, the chips looked like they had been fried earlier in the day, then re-fried just for me!! Also, the bar prices are extortionate. Finally, I was shocked to note that in the "HOTEL GUESTS ONLY" Lounge next to Reception, had a little tea and coffee station, which I thought was a nice touch, until I read the sign that it was £3 per cup!!! I paid £500 for two nights - not good value for money at all.

Passable

Liked: Staff were lovely. I have been a few times but standards seem to have slipped my bed was pushed together to make a double and the sheet didn't fit.
Disliked: Beds pushed together. Sheet that didn't fit. Spa evacuated early in morning we left at 7.30 instead of 11 due to this
