Lovely historic building with friendly...
Liked: Loved the bar area, the staff, the pool, sauna and hot tub
Disliked: Windows were not clean and room could do with a lick of paint but it was generally clean just getting dated.

More shabby than chic!
Liked: The vibe of the place is nice. Love the history and age of the building. Staff were friendly.
Disliked: Paid for quite an expensive room... whilst it had loads of character, it was more shabby than chic. Huge rips in the net curtains, stains and rips on chairs, mold on the carpet in the bathroom (In 2025 why is there carpet in the bathroom?!) Oh and the bath water was green.... and no proper shower! Also, we ate in the bar in the evening and the food wasn't great, nor was the breakfast in the morning. The hotel was also very dirty in the morning after the day before... especially the tables outside - rubbish falling out of overflowing bins and sticky floors etc.

Pleasant
Liked: Polite & welcoming staff.Great Hog roast at our friends wedding and a good breakfast with plenty of choice.
Disliked: We felt the drinks prices were expensive, alcohol, soft drinks & coffee. The bar in the events room needed some stock, the shelves were quite empty, needed some visual impact. We stayed in a superior room and although a good size it did need some decoration. The painted furniture was marked and needs refurbishment. Some areas like skirting boards were quite dusty.

Idyllic, if a little tired....
Liked: The building, landscape and views are amazing. So beautiful. Sheep bleating off in the distance. Very pleasant. The room, 17, we stayed in was huge! That was the upside. It was more of a suite. The bed was more like 2 singles pushed together. So there was plenty of space in it.There were a reasonable range of options for breakfast. The pool and sauna were great. I didn't try the steam room or gym (which looked well equipped).
Disliked: The room was really dated. The ceiling plaster has several cracks, the walls were tired, general lighting was dull (not helped by the dowdy furniture), the standard lamp was on its last legs, the shower cubicle door leaked terribly, the toilet made an awful noise when flushed, and the sink tap was ferocious and soaked us pretty much every time we tentatively turned it on.Breakfast was a buffet. Coffee like syrup and the hot items were warm at best. Sadly, the staff didn't offer to bring anything. It was very much a help yourself to everything (which was odd considering the grandeur of the place).
