The Spotlight on Ramada by Wyndham Portland

Affordable Comfort with Easy Access to Portland's Music Scene

Modern and practical, the Ramada by Wyndham Portland offers a no-fuss stay just off Highway I-205, in a convenient spot for travelers heading to Portland's top concert venues. With free WiFi, a daily hot breakfast buffet, and flat-screen TVs in every room, this hotel delivers solid comfort at a great price point. It's only a 12-minute drive from Portland International Airport and within easy reach of downtown via the nearby MAX Light Rail station, just a 10-minute walk away.

Why Concert-goers love it

With the Rose Garden Arena only 10 minutes away by car, and the MAX Light Rail station nearby, getting to and from shows is a breeze. The hotel’s location off the highway makes post-concert returns quick and easy, and the free parking is a major plus for those driving in. While not in the heart of downtown, the neighborhood is quieter—great for fans looking to unwind after a loud night out. Check-in starts at 3 p.m., and with 11 a.m. check-out, there's time to sleep in after a late show.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends road-tripping to see their favorite band
- Solo travelers catching a bucket-list performance
- Couples planning a casual concert weekend
- Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
- Budget-conscious music fans seeking value without sacrificing comfort

Food and Drink Options

The hotel serves a daily hot breakfast buffet—perfect after a late night. While there’s no on-site restaurant or bar, free 24-hour coffee in the reception area keeps you going. The nearby area has several walkable dining options for pre- or post-show bites, and many guests appreciate the in-room tea and coffee-making facilities.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself doesn’t offer live music or nightlife, it’s a short drive or light rail ride to Portland’s lively bar and music scene. Whether you’re heading to a concert or looking to grab a drink after, the location offers easy access to downtown bars, lounges, and clubs.

What People Say

Reviewers consistently praise the hotel's clean rooms, friendly staff, and excellent value. The proximity to the airport and major highways is often mentioned as a plus, especially for travelers with packed itineraries. Guests also love the free breakfast and parking, which help stretch the concert budget.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the decor is a bit dated and the location isn’t particularly scenic—more suburban than central. But if your priority is a comfy place to crash after a show, it delivers exactly what’s needed.

The Bottom Line

A solid, budget-friendly choice with easy access to Portland's concert venues—Ramada by Wyndham Portland is ideal for music fans who want convenience without the downtown price tag.

Written above in first question...

Liked: It looked like it would be a nice place to stay, however I didn’t find out thanks to an employee that was beyond rude who after myself walking outside to call booking.com due to an error with my booking and going back inside had tried not one Time but several times to rebook using my banking information that was on the booking website. Due to this my bank account had gone into the negative and I couldn’t get a room not just at this place but any other! No please keep in mind my home had just burnt down and I didn’t have a place to go. This was far from alright!! Even worse if it could have gotten worse I was still charged over $400.00 that the the girl checking customers in did not take off. I was told that she took the 3 off that she had done (again using my debit card without my knowledge ) but that she couldn’t remove the $400+ dollar one which I’ve still not been refunded for as booking.com has been waiting for well over a week for you to get ahold of them and never being contacted! I will have to get my attorneys involved in this as everybody whom has been trying to help me has had no luck!
Disliked: Everything

NOT SAFE!!!

Liked: The original staff seemed lovely. They were very accommodating. I do wish I’d read reviews and knew about the location before booking. This is a privately owned hotel. They will not reimburse your money. You will have to go to corporate. Don’t let the price tag fool you. It’s a drive with dangerous drug use and transients frequenting the hallways. NOT SAFE!
Disliked: If it could be a ZERO Star it would be! What started out as what we thought was an act of kindness, quickly turned into a feeling of being bamboozled. The front desk staff at check-in were kind, accommodating and allowed us to check in early. They accommodated our accessibility needs due to traveling with our complex daughters in wheelchair’s due to outpatient procedures at a Portland Childrens hospital, but the property was unsafe, run down and surrounded by drug use. We left at 5:00 pm after literally being there for 4 hours because transients were roaming the hallways (not patron’s of the establishment). There were people doing drugs outside our window. We felt very unsafe! Furthermore, there was a huge water leak in the window of the ADA room that we notified them about immediately and no one came. As we were leaving the young woman at the front desk was completely uncaring/rude, as I imagine they get paid for rooms that people don’t end up staying in quite frequently due to the unsavory, unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Don’t let the website pics mislead you. To top all things off, as we went to leave someone was parked in the no parking lines next to our wheelchair van and we had to pull out to load our child blocking traffic. That was the final straw! We had to drive home to central Oregon. This is the response I received upon request of a refund. “Thank you for your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, especially given the circumstances surrounding your travel. Please know that we did our very best to accommodate your family, including offering an early check-in and ensuring your accessibility needs were met upon arrival. Once a guest has checked in and used the room, especially for several hours, we are unfortunately unable to resell that room for the night, and as such, we are not in a position to issue a refund.

Boooooo

Liked: Hmmm. I didn’t like very much about the place…the tv was a large screen LG so that is something…the breakfast was pretty good tho not much of a spread far as options. But it was good.
Disliked: Ok so even early evening the main door to lobby remained locked. This is because of the area and Portland’s preference to the street dwelling drug addicts and nut jobs and fentanyl zombies over the comfort & safety of law abiding citizens. This area is the epicenter of this outside of downtown. So that was a hassle but fine. Next, front desk lady was rude or grumpy or both. Was informed when arriving that my form of payment is not accepted, even tho it was ok to hold the reservation & book the room, they would not let me pay with it. In fact none of my debit cards or ApplePay would work. Debit card from major bank only. No credit card or PayPal types. So I asked about cash. Yes with $350 deposit on top of the room fee. Since I’d be screwed otherwise I said ok. Walked 8 blocks to atm to drain most of my funds. Then as I was forking over the money I’d meant for stuffing in garters at Club 205 next door, the rude lady continued scolding me about not knowing the policy of not accepting payments forms that are accepted everywhere else. I tired of this quickly and pointed out that I might have known, had it been posted during booking or anytime sooner. Anyway. 30 min to get checked in and btw, it’s nearly midnight now. I walk in to the room and audibly sigh. First I can’t find a light switch for forever, when I do, it doesn’t work. Finally fumbled into a lamp. All told the lighting consisted of 2 dim lamps and two bulbs over the vanity. Sigh again when seeing bathroom. The tub is dingy and small, shower head was decent but really loose on its bracket. During shower it did fall off completely and dumped all over the floor and I had to rig up some crappy deal to finish. Oh the lighting in bathroom no better, one switch barely worked till I found the sweet spot. Mark the tap now I foresee a deadly fire in the future from that shorted out light switch in room 111. Dang 111 isn’t that some kind of bad juju? Anyway, I said it hear first. Ok so back to the present.

Very poor

Liked: Bathtub gross and no plug . Not that you would want to use it. Breakfast was not good. And hotel bad location. Look out the windows and the street is full of rvs and tents of homeless people. People smoking weed and wandering in parking lot.
