Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Karen, Guernsey, visiting The Great Hall Exeter Wed, 20 November 2024

Room 106 advertised as “elegant”; the room certainly was not. Small, badly decorated, stained carpet, small double bed, only one bedside table, not one painting etc., only one mug, no TV remote and a grubby blind that had to be permanently lowered in order to use the bathroom. Only being there for three nights, I should have complained but didn’t. So I do take responsibility for that. But it was so disappointing.

Liked: The location, breakfast and staff.
Disliked: The room!

A real gem

Liked: This is a gem - beautiful building and furnishings, lovely friendly staff. Everything I needed in my room but also a bar and loungeBreakfast was wonderful - I had poached pears before a huge tasty fry up, then a croissant. Loved it - seriously I'd come back to Exeter because of this place
Disliked: All was perfect

Nice size room. Staff not...

Liked: Location was perfect - a walk away from the station and close to town. The room is a good size and all was clean.
Disliked: The concierge could smile if possible on (guest) arrival. When I was leaving there was no smile and no goodbye as I dropped off my card/key.

A great find.

Liked: The welcome was lovely. The beds were so comfy, and the breakfasts were absolutely delish. So great to see such a big range of fresh fruits. It was close enough to walk into town too. We will be recommending a d staying there again. Thank you!

Not the best experience. No...

Liked: The bed is very comfortable and the room has plenty space to spend the day relaxing, eating, reading. Central location, which allows you to walk to the centre if you enjoy walking.
Disliked: Dull room situated at the back of the house. The window view was to a inner space where you have chimneys and the noise of the washing up from the kitchen and staff talking. There was no water pressure in the shower and in the morning no water at all. No one at the reception to ask for help or even to complain. There's only one lady at the reception when we arrived serving the bar/restaurant at the same time. She looked tired hence with lack of patience. Prices very expensive for the service provided, which is a shame because the hotel looks charming.
