The Spotlight on Prince Of Wales Hotel

Victorian Charm Meets Modern Comfort in Niagara-on-the-Lake

A timeless stay awaits at the Prince Of Wales Hotel, a luxurious Victorian-style retreat in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Just steps from Lake Ontario and a short stroll to the area's renowned performance venues, this elegant property blends historic character with modern amenities, including a full-service spa and gourmet dining. Each uniquely decorated room is adorned with antiques, tapestries, and creature comforts like flat-screen TVs and in-room coffee makers. Whether you’re in the main building or one of the charming annexes nearby, you’re never far from the action—or the relaxation.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located just a 10-minute walk from the Shaw Festival Theatre and other live entertainment spots, this hotel is ideal for music lovers who want a quick, scenic walk back after a show. The atmosphere is peaceful, perfect for unwinding post-performance, and the late check-out at 11:00 AM means you can sleep in after a late night. While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 transport, its central location makes it easy to explore on foot or via local taxis.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want a stylish base close to theaters and wineries
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list performance in a scenic setting
  • Couples looking to pair a concert with a romantic weekend getaway
  • Fans seeking quiet after the show, with spa services and serene surroundings
  • Budget-conscious music fans who value classic charm and walkability over chain-hotel rates

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Noble Restaurant offers a refined dining experience with French-inspired cuisine and global wines—ideal for a pre-show dinner. For something more relaxed, the Churchill Lounge in the library serves up casual fare and cocktails. While there’s no 24-hour room service or late-night menu, you’ll find several local eateries just a short walk away. Bonus: traditional English afternoon tea is served daily for a unique daytime treat.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself leans toward a tranquil vibe, you’re close to a handful of wine bars and lounges in the historic downtown area. Think less club scene, more cozy conversations over Niagara wines. Don’t miss the local craft tasting rooms nearby.

What People Say

Guests rave about the beautiful historic decor, the attentive staff, and the overall peaceful ambiance. Many note its fantastic location—just far enough from crowds, yet walkable to venues and restaurants. The spa treatments and gourmet dining also earn high marks.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that because the rooms are spread across five separate buildings, it can be confusing on arrival. Also, while full of charm, the hotel may not suit those wanting ultra-modern interiors or round-the-clock amenities. A few reviewers wished for more nightlife options on-site.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting a romantic, refined stay within walking distance of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s best live performances, the Prince Of Wales Hotel hits all the right notes.

Exceptional

Liked: all were excellent. Very well run facility and not really comparable to anywhere that I have stayed ...maybe NYC and maybe Paris France. Location was wonderful. Parking was better than I expected for our car. Staff superb.
Disliked: Not really a big deal but a few ants on the bathroom floor.

Hotel was excellent. We won.t...

Liked: The hotel was convenient to all amenities. The room was lovely. I enjoyed the extra touch with rose on the pillow
Disliked: We made reservations at the hotel fine dining room, expecting a fabulous meal. Unfortunately, while the service was excellent, the meal was the worst, steak was so tough and the hen had so many bones and so salty, my husband hardly ate anything

Liked: The little details meant so much to us for our one night stay! The rose on the bed, the music playing when we walked in the room, the bottle of local sparking wine because we are celebrating our honeymoon, everything was so kind and unexpected. The staff was also incredibly friendly at check in/ check out
Disliked: Honestly I can’t think of anything.

Overpriced due to its historical...

Liked: The room we stayed at was spacious and comfortable. There was a nice fireplace and the bathroom was also very nice with the bath separate from the standing shower. I also liked that the room was completely dark at night which allowed us to rest a lot and sleep very well.
Disliked: I don’t think that the price we paid justifies the room and the rest of the facilities and amenities. You can see it’s not really a high end hotel room, although it has some decent care and organization, but there are already some newer and more comfortable rooms available around the main street around the same price. Aside from that, we didn’t stayed at the main building of the hotel, and it made us feel like we were not staying there. I noticed that the staff will give priority on giving the rooms on the main building to companies that are staying there as part of some event or conference as I saw a lot of people there with badges, as well as folks who are older and apparently have more money. The same goes for the way staff treated us. They were never disrespectful, but you could notice they went an extra mile with kindness, attention and respect for those folks who had more money or were staying at better rooms. One last thing to note is that we found hairs on floor, some on the couch and all the food there is absolutely expensive and not a big deal. Best to go out and eat at the nearby restaurants.
