The Spotlight on Portland Regency Hotel & Spa

Historic Charm Meets Concert-Ready Comfort in Portland's Old Port

Located in the heart of the Old Port district, the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa blends classic New England elegance with modern comfort. Housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century armory, this hotel offers a relaxing retreat just steps from Portland’s buzzing nightlife and music venues. With a full-service spa, on-site dining, and walkable access to downtown attractions, it’s an ideal home base for fans heading to a show.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel gets high marks for its central location—you're just a short walk or quick ride from Portland’s most popular music venues. After the encore, unwind in the hotel's steam rooms, hot tubs, or book a recovery session at the on-site spa. With a 12:00 PM checkout, there’s no rush the next morning, and complimentary morning coffee in the lobby helps ease into the day. Bonus: the area is well-served by late-night transport and walkable streets.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking to explore the city by day and catch a show by night
- Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list concert
- Couples planning a romantic music-filled weekend
- Fans who want a quieter, luxurious space to recover post-show
- Budget-conscious music lovers looking for value in the upscale Old Port area

Food and Drink Options

You won’t go hungry here. The on-site restaurant Eighteen serves up fresh, local Maine seafood with a modern American twist—perfect for pre-show dining. After the concert, head to the cozy Armory Lounge for pub fare, craft cocktails, and a solid beer list. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the downtown location means late-night bites are just around the corner. Morning-after breakfast? Yes, and you can even grab complimentary coffee in the lobby.

Nightlife Options

The Armory Lounge is a favorite among guests and locals alike for its intimate atmosphere and strong drinks—ideal for a nightcap. Step outside and you’re in the heart of the Old Port's nightlife, with live music bars, cozy pubs, and waterfront lounges all within walking distance.

What People Say

Travelers love the historic ambiance, friendly staff, and unbeatable location. Reviews frequently mention the spa as a standout feature, especially after a long night out. Many also appreciate the quiet rooms and the ability to walk everywhere downtown. The Armory Lounge and Eighteen restaurant both earn consistent praise for food quality and service.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that while the building’s charm is undeniable, a few rooms could use minor updates. Parking is limited and valet pricing can be a bit steep—but that's the trade-off for staying so centrally. Also, there’s no on-site live music, though nearby venues more than make up for it.

The Bottom Line

With a prime location, spa perks, and relaxing atmosphere, the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa is a top pick for concert-goers who want comfort and convenience with a touch of luxury.

Lori, Whitefield, visiting Merrill Auditorium

It was a great stay. The food was so amazing! The staff was very accommodating. We only had 20 minutes before the breakfast was to close and they were still able to seat us. It was was a wonderful get away - thank you very much!

Liked: Wish we could have stayed longer.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Call ahead, verify everything

Liked: Nothing
Disliked: Beds, bathroom, heating/cooling not operational - loud. Staff other then valet (rude) not explanatory on rooms, amenities or helpful. Restaurants (misleading) call ahead to make sure they did not decide to have you eat outside while it's misting or raining. I've stayed in many places for work, I treated myself to this one. Not Worth It! Very unhappy.

Dissatisfied

Liked: Location
Disliked: Advertises a Gym, however it operates only for limited hours during the day, so by the time we were back from exploring the city, the gym was closed, and it opens late. So we were not able to exercise early morning or night. And the gym was the reason for my booking the hotel. Very disappointing. The restaurant service was awful. We had to wait for over 25 minutes to be acknowledge during dinner and the same for breakfast.
