The Spotlight on Portland Inn

Affordable Comfort Near Portland’s Northside Music Scene

Modern yet budget-friendly, Portland Inn offers a no-frills stay just a quick drive from the Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center. Located in North Portland, this hotel is a smart choice for concert-goers looking for convenient access, free parking, and clean, spacious rooms. With warm-toned decor, in-room cable TV, and free Wi-Fi, it’s a solid base whether you're catching a late-night show or just passing through the city.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a 6-minute drive from the Portland Expo Center, making it easy to get to shows without the hassle. The hotel’s proximity to Portland International Airport—only 6 miles away—is perfect for out-of-town fans flying in for a big event. Free parking is a huge bonus if you're road-tripping. While it’s not in the heart of downtown, that also means quieter nights for post-concert recovery. Late check-in from 3:00 PM makes arrival flexible, and getting out by 11:00 AM gives you time to sleep in a bit.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable place to crash after a show
  • Solo travelers flying in to see a bucket-list band
  • Couples on a weekend music getaway
  • Fans seeking a quieter, no-fuss place to relax post-concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who'd rather spend on merch than a suite

Food and Drink Options

While the Portland Inn doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, there are plenty of nearby eateries and diners within a short drive. You won’t find 24/7 room service here, but with free parking, it’s easy to grab late-night bites or breakfast after a late gig. Local spots near the University of Portland and along Columbia Blvd offer solid post-show sustenance.

Nightlife Options

This hotel is more about catching your breath after a high-energy show. There’s no on-site bar, but nearby venues and bars in North Portland or Kenton are just a short ride away. If you’re up for hopping in a Lyft or Uber, Northeast Portland’s laid-back bars and lounges are within reach.

What People Say

Guests appreciate the affordable rates and the hotel’s clean, spacious rooms. Many reviews highlight the convenience to the airport and ease of parking as major pluses. Travelers mention that it’s a great option for a short overnight stay when attending events.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the hotel is basic in amenities—don’t expect luxury or boutique vibes. The location, while convenient by car, is not walkable to most attractions, so having your own transportation is a plus. A few mention that the decor could use a refresh, but most agree it’s clean and comfortable.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a concert in North Portland and want a clean, affordable, and quiet place to stay, Portland Inn is a smart and stress-free pick.

You need to find my yelp review. It has photos. We were looking for cheap accommodation, not accommodation so bad we had to sleep fully clothed in hoodies.

Liked: I hate to say it but literally nothing; the front desk guy was really nice.
Disliked: Everything you could think of.

My boyfriend and I had to work at the Expo Center and since we travel all the time, we always stay in dives. I usually like them, neither of us are picky. But after finding this little motel, we were sure that we were being "PUNKED" or otherwise pranked to see how long we could stand it. Yes, I looked for cameras. All of the lamps in the room and the remote to the malfunctioning TV were broken. After taking a shower and swimming in calf-deep water with old hair coming up from the drain, we dried off with hand-towels after peeling long, black hairs off them. Then came the fun part. We tried laying down on the bed. I didn't even know that mattresses could do this. It was entirely rock hard and the springs were coming through the mattress. Our pillows felt like big lumps of clay. It was so bad I moved blankets to the floor to sleep, where I at least didn't have springs stabbing me in the ribs. At 4am, my boyfriend and I couldn't take it anymore and went back to the office to change rooms, where we found a homeless man camped out in the lobby. Our very ghetto but very accommodating receptionist put us in a new room, with a slightly newer mattress and TWO functioning lamps! We were very grateful, but still woke up with immense back pain, making for a great 10 hour workday on our feet at the fair. $64 dollars for a night in hell. I should have slept in my truck.

Liked: Pos: We didn't die.
Disliked: Neg: Apparently you can't pick ZERO in your rating.

If you want to leave...

Liked: The two and a half hours I wasted going to this hotel with a guaranteed reservation I really love that and then to be turned away I have to go all the way back across town. I love flying into Portland after my sister makes reservations and then being turned away in the middle of f****** nowhere at 1:00 in the morning
Disliked: Everything the person of the front desk. A complete idiot

Liked: The price was relatively low.
Disliked: Be cautious with this place — I do not recommend staying here. It felt unsafe, and there were a lot of strange people hanging around. At 3 AM, the neighbors blasted loud music. The entire room smelled heavily of cigarettes. The security latch on the door was broken, and there was a fist-sized hole in the bathroom door... no further comment. If you have other options, avoid this place.Cheap price, but a very questionable place
