The staff were above and...

Liked: The location is beautiful. The only gripe I have is that I had to park on Marine Drive. (About half a mile away, and I am an 82 year old woman), as the cost of an overnight stay on the quayside was £26 and there were no spaces available anyway. My 95 year old sister had to wait in reception as unluckily for me, there was a music festival in progress and parking nearby was impossible. The terrible noise also spoiled the peace and quiet and the natural sounds of the river that I nostalgically remember from previous visits and was the main reasons I chose The Portbyhan Hotel and a riverside room with balcony rather than the Hannafore Point Hotel.
Disliked: As Looe's shopkeepers and hotels rely on the money brought in by tourists, I think that the Portbyhan Hotel and the Council (or whoever controls the parking facilities), should come to an agreement and allot a certain number of parking spaces, opposite the hotel, specifically for guests at the Portbyhan Hotel. I know cars are an anathema nowadays but they are also a lifeline for independent people and businesses.

I won’t stay here again.

Liked: The staff was great! Our food in the restaurant was delicious.
Disliked: Needs to be renovated. The common areas in the hotel were ok. Need to be updated. Our room, however was old. Terrible mattress. Old, old carpet. Our bathroom was also very old. Everything about our room needed to be redone and updated.

Lovely location. Expensive for size...

Liked: Perfect location. Nicely decorated public areas.
Disliked: Breakfast was very chaotic. We weren’t advised what to do. As in whether it was self-service or not. It took an age to get any hot drinks. Then it took ages for our breakfast order to even be taken. We asked for another coffee and then watched as it was taken to another table and left there to the bewilderment of the guests. We asked for honey. It never arrived. I got up in the end and went to the counter and collected things myself from the staff working there. The bedroom and bathroom were very small for the price we had paid. There was quite a bit of dust about on surfaces in the bedroom and in the bathroom.

Disappointing - 2 out of 5

Food was excellent.

Liked: The room very extremely small, the shower was impossible to get in and we were woken up at 5 in the morning with fans from the kitchen. We needed the window open as the room being so small was very claustrophobic. The windows were opaque because there was only wall to look at out of the window, we very very disappointed.
