The Spotlight on Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina

Relaxing Riverside Escape Just Outside the City

Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina is a charming, rustic-style escape nestled on the riverbank in Needingworth. Just 10 miles from Cambridge and 20 miles from Peterborough, this countryside retreat offers a calm and scenic base with a garden, terrace, and shared lounge space—perfect for winding down after a night of live music.

Surrounded by nature, the hotel blends classic comfort with a laid-back vibe. Free WiFi is available throughout most of the property (note: not in the chalet standard room area), and rooms include ample storage with wardrobes. Whether you’re in town for a festival or a one-night-only gig, the Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina delivers a cozy and down-to-earth stay near the action, without the city’s bustle.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert-goers appreciate the peaceful setting after the energy of a live show. While not directly in the city center, it’s a short drive from Cambridge’s leading venues, offering a quieter alternative for post-show recovery. With check-in from 14:00 and check-out at 11:00, there's room to relax on both ends of your stay. The rural location means minimal street noise, helping you get a good night’s sleep—even after a late performance.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to split a cozy countryside stay
  • Solo travelers who want a scenic spot to recharge
  • Couples turning a concert into a romantic weekend escape
  • Fans needing a quiet space to unwind after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers happy to Uber or drive in for the show

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no mention of 24/7 room service, the hotel does offer on-site dining options with a restaurant and bar. You’ll also find a terrace area for drinks or snacks when the weather’s right. For those post-show cravings, nearby pubs and restaurants in St. Ives are just a short drive away. Breakfast is available, ideal for a slow start after a late night.

Nightlife Options

This is more of a retreat than a party spot, but that’s part of its charm. The on-site bar offers a relaxed space for a drink or two after your gig. For more energy, head into Cambridge or St. Ives where you’ll find pubs, cocktail lounges, and live music venues just a drive away.

What People Say

Guests love the riverside views, friendly staff, and the characterful atmosphere of the hotel. Many mention how the peaceful location is perfect for a relaxing break, and the outdoor spaces like the terrace and garden get high marks. The proximity to both Cambridge and Peterborough makes it a convenient base for regional concerts.

Areas for Improvement

The biggest thing to note is that WiFi isn’t available in the standard chalet rooms, so if you’re planning to stream or share concert videos, you might want to book a different room type. Also, since it's not right in the city, you’ll need a car or rideshare to reach venues—not ideal if you’re looking to walk everywhere.

The Bottom Line

If you’re after a peaceful, scenic base near Cambridge to chill out after a concert, Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina offers charm, comfort, and countryside calm—just a short drive from the music scene.

It was okay but not...

Liked: Location was lovely however we were not informed there was a wedding in a marquee so may be louder and also because of the wedding there was no full breakfast the next day
Disliked: The room was meant to be available from 2pm and we could not access the room until 3.30pm ish. Also the access to the hotel at 11pm was not realistic as my dad was unable to see the phone number on the wall as he is registered blind and not at any point on check in did they give us/him the appropriate/ correct information

Superb

Liked: Great location as it's on the Riverbank. It was lovely seeing everyone enjoying themselves in and on the river, and all the boats, birds etc. The accommodation was a chalet in a little block overlooking the marina. The bed was really comfy and we especially liked the huge TV. There was a good selection of beverages and biscuits, plus bottled water in the room. It was so peaceful. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening, and we watched the house martins swooping around whilst we sat on the terrace with a nice cold drink - it was during the heatwave! Was a lovely break and we would definitely recommend it. Great value for money.
Disliked: Although there's frosted glass in the bathroom window, we'd prefer a blind as well

Okay for a short stay

Liked: The venue was nice as was the meal we had there. The grounds are lovely especially on a hot summers day.
Disliked: The room was very small, there was no aircon, the shower had very little pressure, it was quite a dangerous exercise getting in and out of the bath to shower. The bathroom products were so small it wouldn't have been enough for one person let alone two. We had no toilet paper when we first arrived, and there is no fridge!

Fabulous river/marina beer garden &...

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay. We had a nice spacious chalet room with your own seating out the front with a view of the marina. The shower was powerful & hot, and the beds were quite comfy. The pub had live music on the Saturday afternoon which we really enjoyed & the seating & space at the front of the hotel just makes the best beer garden as it is right on the river and is a huge space. We also ate both nights at the pub and enjoyed the food.

Wonderful haven on the river

Liked: Comfortable, attractive, clean, quiet room in a gorgeous location. Fantastic to have the river right outside our door. Welcoming and friendly staff who looked after us very well. Lovely restaurant with a delicious menu and sitting on the terrace watching the river was a delightful way to spend the evening. Nice touches like fresh bottled water in our room each day and lovely complimentary toiletries.
Disliked: We couldn't fault the place at all and look forward very much to our next visit.
