The Spotlight on Oyster Fleet Hotel

Laid-back comfort with lakeside views, close to Southend and Chelmsford gigs

Modern yet unpretentious, the Oyster Fleet Hotel sits in a peaceful spot on Canvey Island, offering easy access to nearby music venues in Southend, Chelmsford, and beyond. Surrounded by a garden terrace and overlooking a scenic lake, this hotel is a relaxed base for concert-goers looking to escape the post-show chaos.

Why Concert-goers love it

The hotel is just 11 miles from Adventure Island, a popular venue in Southend, and within easy reach of Chelmsford and Upminster via train or car. It's a solid pick if you're catching a show but want a quieter place to wind down afterward. With check-in from 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM, there’s time to sleep in after a late night. Free parking makes it easy for road-trippers, and the location is just 12 miles from London Southend Airport for out-of-town fans.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a casual, affordable stay
- Solo travelers ticking off a bucket-list concert
- Couples combining a show with a weekend escape
- Fans seeking quiet after the encore
- Budget-conscious music lovers who need the basics done well

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant and bar make it easy to grab a meal or nightcap without leaving the hotel. While there's no mention of late-night dining or 24/7 room service, the electric kettle in every room is perfect for a post-show brew. Breakfast is available, though hours may vary—ideal for those easing into the day after a late night.

Nightlife Options

While the immediate area is more chill than buzzing, the hotel bar is a handy spot for a few drinks before or after the show. For more action, Southend’s nightlife is just a short drive away, with clubs, pubs, and live music options galore.

What People Say

Guests praise the peaceful lake views and the friendly staff, often noting that the rooms are simple but comfortable. Many appreciate the cleanliness and the convenience of the on-site restaurant and free parking. It's not a luxury stay, but it delivers good value for money.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviews mention that the decor could use a refresh, and Wi-Fi isn't always the fastest. If you're planning to stream your favorite band post-show, be patient. Also, it’s a drive from most major venues, so consider that if you’re relying on public transport.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want a quiet, comfortable, and affordable base near Southend and Chelmsford, Oyster Fleet Hotel is a solid choice.

Not bad but not good...

Liked: For my requirements it was close to my work location.
Disliked: Very poor quality. I'm saying what I experienced and received.So.. the photos of the rooms advertised are not what I saw or had. My room.. 32.. was dated and tired. Old flat pillows. Very sparsely furnished. Tired and dated. Small TV in the corner, not good if your older and eye sight failing. No WiFi in the rooms.. ridiculous in these modern times. Mobile phone reception is sketchy in most of the living areas. It said WiFi in the bar area but struggled to find it. Weak signal.. gave up in the end..Breakfast for workers! Forget it.. it's not on until 8.30am.. if you're lucky.. I felt this was done deliberately to cut costs. The same with WiFi.The restaurant was good and decent value.I wouldn't recommend kids here in the hotel. Every family I saw had problems with boredom.. no WiFi.. tantrums and crying kids! Parents nightmare..So.. tired rooms and pillows. No WiFi...Not good for workers wanting breakfast before they start..Up your game.. look after your customers and not your pocket.. it's customers that line your wallets.. no customers.. no wallet

Great hotel

Liked: Lovely staff. Big room. Very clean. Tbe food was excellent and the outdoor area was beautiful. Plenty of free parking.
Disliked: Very hot weather, one window wouldn't open and there was no air conditioning or fan. No WiFi available, even at a charge.

Bedroom suite and function review

Liked: We were staying because we had a function booked in the hall. The staff involved in the function were excellent and attentive. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. If you are considering holding a function at the oysterfleet, we could not fault the service nor the facilities.
Disliked: The room was extremely hot despite the staff supplying a fan and us bringing our own. The windows opened, but the room was above the kitchen extractor, so we smelled food all day and evening. The shower was powerful and easily controlled, but the bathroom and the room were in need of freshening up. Other friends in our party stayed in the further side of the hotel and their rooms looked as though they had been newly decorated so, maybe they are doing some at a time.

A great weekend away

Liked: The hotel was a really nice place to stay. It's in walking distance to where we wanted to go. The bedroom is a good size . The staff were very helpful.
Disliked: The only thing was we stayed on the hottest day of the year. I forgot to ask for a fan. They said they would have given us if I had asked. so it's my fault as it was late . One of the windows didn't open, but it was reported nothing else

Liked: Friendly, polite and helpful staff.Very clean. We was booked in to another place from Saturday to Wednesday but due to state of place, staff mannerism we left thereafter night 2 and managed to get a room at oysterfleet and it was best thing we did. It improved experience of Essex for my partner as it was his 1st time in Essex and he loved the oysterfleet.
