Disappointed. Definitely not 3 stars.

Liked: The hotel was near the Registry Office where we were attending a wedding. The towels and bedding were white & no feathers in the bedding as requested. We were allowed to check in early so we could get ready for the wedding, but had to pay £10 extra. There was disabled parking. There was a beautiful stained glass window above the staircase. There was a large flat-screen TV. There was a keycard for the main door & bedroom door. There was a small secure window in the bedroom & bathroom. The view from our room was nice.
Disliked: The decor and furnishings were dated, and the parts that had been painted had been badly done. The bedroom looked nothing like the photos, the carpet was poorly fitted, the bath had a plastic layer that hadn’t been peeled off, the breakfast was basic and had obviously been kept warm for a long time, we had to share a set of knife & forks after asking the waiter for another set and not getting any. There were no saucers for the coffee cups & the coffee wasn’t very hot. When I opened the vertical blinds in the morning, one of the bits of the blind fell off. Most of the windows were painted shut, and the double glazing had steamed up. The hotel smelt damp downstairs.

Pleasant

1st night was terrible but...

Liked: It’s a large old house with character. It wasn’t too busy and things worked as expected. Breakfast was good apart from only instant coffee. The staff dealt with my complaint very well.
Disliked: First night in room 112! Someone was working throughout the night in the room above which kept me awake as I could hear them moving around, ripping open boxes or something and going to the toilet. Mattress was low quality metal springs so not very comfortable.
