Maggie R, Devon, visiting Widcombe Social Club Bath
I had a lovely night's stay - the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The room was cosy and the breakfast beautifully cooked.
Disliked: Nothing.

Do not book if you...
Liked: We booked this BnB for a short local trip and were initially drawn to its charm and convenient location. While the room was clean and the stay itself was quiet, we left feeling disappointed by the overall experienc both in terms of pricing and accessibility.
Disliked: We reserved our room a few days in advance at £177+. It was one of the more affordable options listed on Booking.com at the time. However, on the day of check-in, we noticed that larger rooms at the same property were listed for under £100 online. Because each room is uniquely listed, we couldn’t request a price match via the platform, but the difference felt significant and disheartening. When I raised this at check-in, the staff offered us complimentary breakfast (which they claimed to be £29.9 value but was listed as £17.95 on Booking.com), which we appreciated and accepted. However, when I gently asked the next morning if further adjustment was possible, I was told that since we had agreed to the original price, it would be inappropriate further ask for compensation. I understand that pricing can fluctuate, but the way this whole situation worked out felt rigid and transactional rather than hospitable.Another thing to note: while the BnB appears relatively central on the map, it actually requires quite a steep uphill walk that isn’t clearly stated in the listing. Because we were traveling with luggage, we ended up paying extra for luggage storage and Uber rides. These were unexpected costs that made the stay even pricier than they might appear on the bill. This is my 3rd time in Bath and each time I visited I felt the place was jammed up even more by over-tourism. I'm not sure if I will ever be back to this city again in the foreseeable future. I understand that it’s not easy to run a BnB in this day and age, and I don’t mean to criticize any of the staff members personally (one staff I talked to on the phone was especially kind and generous, thank you!). Still, as a guest, I believe the situation was handled unfairly--it felt like the platform and the hotel ganged up together to lock us into an unfair price, and we ended up having to bear the burden of not being the "grateful guest" by just asking to be treated fairly.

Liked: This charming B&B was perfect for me: steeped in history, off the beaten path yet near the center of town, great staff (especially KC), and air conditioning in my room! Booked on booking.com at a great price too.
