Nice pub stay

Liked: The pub is great it has a good selection of real ale and larger cider which you would expect. Very accommodating to walkers and customers with dogs and families there are two snug rooms as well as a very large enclosed beer garden.
Disliked: The selection of real ale is impressive. Comfortable and well laid out.breakfast is very nice and the rooms are a good size. The staff are accommodating and knowledgeable.

Great location, comfortable and excellent...

Liked: Upon leaving the Old Swan, we were informed it had been sold and all staff had been let go. The Inn would be closed for a week and then re-open under new management. My report is based on the last days of the old owners, not the new management, and therefore subject to scrutiny, since things have undoubtedly changed.I picked the Old Swan because of its location at the entrance to the Yorkshire Dales, our chosen area to visit. They were easy to communicate with and since I had some special requests this was a plus. Easy to find, also thanks to GPS, and with free, on-site parking. Quite new (re-built about 5 years ago) it gives the impression of a much older building with all modern comforts. The room was more than adequate, the bathroom equally so, the bed comfortable and the staff provided everything we had requested, thank you!We loved the breakfasts, and even more so, the atmosphere of the evening meals. After our first meal, fresh off the plane from the States, we decided we could not do better by going out, so we ate every evening meal at the Old Swan. There are three dining areas, two smaller ones, which we particularly liked. It was part of the charm of the building. The food was interesting, well prepared and very tasty. Obviously a talented chef, with imagination. The manageress, I believe her name was Debs, if I got that right, was a wonderful help to us. Not only very personable, she helped us find some hidden gems in the area, gave us good directions to places we might like to see and was a fount of information about the area. It was clear she was a people person and many larger establishments would be glad to have her! Interestingly, as we were at our last day's breakfast (she insisted I have a real English breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed it!) she mentioned this was her last day, the Old Swan had changed hands and all staff had been let go as being too expensive, as of that day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Disliked: There was no elevator, and due to my recent knee surgery, the stairs were a challenge. However, I looked upon them as exercise and physical therapy and they were nice stairs with handrails and would be good for me.The shower could have been roomier, but it was adequate. No wash cloths in the bathroom, but we found this to be true almost everywhere.

Great short stay

Liked: Hotel allowed us to check in early as we were attending a wedding close by. The room was lovely and clean with very good facilities.
Disliked: Shower head was a little close to the wall and was a little difficult to shower properly. No mushrooms or black pudding offered with full English.

We took a chance on...

Liked: The staff in particular were all friendly, kind and helpful. The bedroom was excellently appointed.
Disliked: Nothing in particular to dislike.

Liked: Good chef. Free parking. Great room. Friendly staff.
