The Spotlight on Old Ship Inn Hackney

Cozy Pub Stay in the Heart of Hackney

Modern comfort meets historic charm at the Old Ship Inn Hackney. Just a 2-minute stroll from Hackney Central Train and Overground Station, this lively spot offers easy access to London's buzzing music scene. With free WiFi, cozy rooms, and a welcoming pub downstairs, it’s a relaxed base for anyone heading out to a show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and the Old Ship Inn Hackney nails it. You’re within easy reach of top venues like Hackney Empire and Oslo Hackney. Thanks to the nearby Overground, late-night returns are easy. Rooms are comfy and set above a lively bar, but guests mention that overnight noise isn’t an issue. Plus, the 15:00 check-in time gives you plenty of pre-show chill, and the 11:00 checkout means you can sleep in a little after a late night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, budget-friendly base
  • Solo travelers chasing that once-in-a-lifetime gig
  • Couples wanting a weekend of music and city exploring
  • Fans who want a quieter spot to unwind after the show
  • Budget-conscious music fans who prefer to spend on experiences, not just lodging

Food and Drink Options

Fuel up before or after your concert with hearty British fare right downstairs. The pub serves a popular traditional Sunday roast and offers meal deals on Mondays and Tuesdays. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the on-site bar keeps the drinks flowing, and tea and coffee-making facilities are in every room for late-night cravings. Breakfast is available to help you recover after a late gig.

Nightlife Options

While the Old Ship Inn Hackney doesn’t host live music nightly, its friendly pub atmosphere is a great place to start or end your evening. You're also just a short walk or quick ride from Hackney’s vibrant nightlife, including trendy bars, cozy lounges, and live music spots.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, the comfortable beds, and the excellent location close to transport and nightlife. Reviews often mention the good value for money and the lively yet relaxed pub vibe. Many travelers say it’s their go-to spot for concerts and events in East London.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the rooms are on the smaller side, and being above a pub means occasional noise during busy evenings—though most say it’s nothing a tired concert-goer can’t sleep through. There's no lift, so pack light if you're staying on an upper floor.

The Bottom Line

If you want a budget-friendly, cozy, and super convenient stay with a true East London vibe, the Old Ship Inn Hackney is a fantastic pick for your next concert night.

Brilliant! Will definitely come back....

Liked: I loved the location. Literally 2 minutes walk from Hackney Central, probably not even that. Close to breakfast places, gym just around the corner and the pub on top of which the hotel is located has amazing beers and even better food.
Disliked: The only thing that I could say wasn’t ideal it’s the fact that the pub is open until 1am which is completely fine with me, but people with sleeping problems might have a tough time.

Great 1 night stay. Everything...

Liked: Very near Hackney Town Hall as we went for a wedding. Staff allowed us to check in early and it was nice having pre drinks in the pub. Fan in the room was needed and very much appreciated.
Disliked: No Breakfast which I think should have been included in room at that price or at least a few welcome drinks

Pleasant

Liked: Despite being a small single room, there was plenty of space for a suitcase, hanging clothes, comfortable bed, easy chair, TV, tea facilities and good bathroom
Disliked: the biggest problem was lack of air-conditioning. I was unfortunate to stay during a London heatwave - I was perhaps unusual in staying a week (most people I believe stay 1 or 2 nights). There was a fairly good fan but this was totally inadequate for the continued heat over the whole week. Heatwaves in London will occur every year & it is essential you put in air-conditioning - my room faced west and the evening sun was intense. You also risk your 'boutique' status degrading to 'budget/shabby' unless you keep on top of more detailed cleaning (eg grubby doors, carpet & skirting boards)
