Ocean Drive Madrid

Not recommended for families or...

Liked: Fantastic location, walking distance to many interesting places and monuments. Safe area in general (might need to be a bit careful during late night strolling). Very big room in comparison to other hotels in Madrid (booked a Junior Suite which was around 30sq.m) and a nice view to Plaza de l'Opera, where the Opera Concert Hall is located. Hotel restaurant is really nice, food was excellent and wine list had many interesting options.
Disliked: Staff is unwilling to offer any kind of "above and beyond" assistance, they stick to the absolute basics. Hotel has a very weird and totally unpleasant policy towards cleaning the room: they want move anything that is on the floor (even suitcases) or on the bed in order to clean. Funny thing is were a family of 3, had 3 large suitcases and no luggage stand to put them on (junior suite had no special position even for 1 suitcase) so we had all suitcases lying on the floor and the floor was never cleaned due to that!! On our second day we went to the reception because the room had a dusty floor and overall dirty feel, the receptionist explained their "policy" (which was never explained at check-in) and when we explained that our luggage had no other place to be put other than the floor, they informed us that luggage stands are available but only upon request (also never mentioned at check-in). Room service menu has many options but missing all the basic stuff you need (pasta, toasted sandwiches, options for kids etc.) and has a gourmet-Mediterranean vibe. Final hit part 1: flying out on our 4th day with a very early flight, as we were checking out I asked for help with our luggage, "sorry, we do not offer that service" was the answer. Final hit part 2: breakfast starts at 07.30, my wife and 9yo child were at breakfast area 07.28 and asked if they could be seated because we had to leave for the airport in 15'. Breakfast area manager replied that we had to wait until 07.30. We were standing still for 2 minutes, looking at the set tables and when clock hit 07.30 the manager told us that we could now be seated. Surreal.Overall, staff members seemed like they didn't like their job and didn't want to do anything more than the very basic.

Spoiled!

Liked: It was our second stay and we can’t imagine visiting Madrid without staying here: it has an amazing rooftop plunge pool, with such unique views, best sunset, it’s so quiet yet vibrant… modern, clean, comfy beds, never hear a sound from neighbours… The Metro is steps in front of the hotel, and the walking streets of Old Madrid starts right there

Liked: Great location and the rooms were modern and clean. Front desk helpful and excellent breakfast. Rooftop pool so so good in 40 degree heat!!
