The Spotlight on Novotel Reading Centre

Modern comfort in the heart of Reading

Novotel Reading Centre is a stylish and contemporary hotel located just two minutes’ walk from Reading Railway Station, making it an incredibly convenient base for concert-goers coming in by train. With a heated indoor pool, sauna, and on-site restaurant and bar, it blends comfort with convenience in a bustling city setting.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’ll love how close this hotel is to Reading’s top music venues—just a short stroll from the train station, meaning less stress getting to and from your gig. The 24-hour front desk makes late-night returns a breeze, and the option for late check-out until 5pm on request is a huge plus after a late night out. Rooms are quiet and spacious, giving you the chance to wind down properly after the show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central base before heading out
  • Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime show
  • Couples making a weekend of it
  • Fans who want a relaxing space to recover after the concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want great amenities

Food and Drink Options

Elements Restaurant serves an international menu, and the lounge bar is perfect for a pre-show drink or post-gig nightcap. You’ll love the 24-hour room service and the option for a hearty breakfast served late—until 11am on weekends. Plenty of local eateries are within easy walking distance too if you want to soak up some local flavor.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more of a chill zone, you’re just minutes away from Reading’s lively bar and club scene. Whether you're after live music, cozy pubs, or cocktail lounges, it's all nearby. The hotel’s own bar offers a relaxed vibe with fine wines and fresh coffee for a quieter night in.

What People Say

Guests often praise the location, saying it's ideal for train arrivals and event access. Travelers rave about the clean, spacious rooms, friendly staff, and the added bonus of the pool and sauna. Families and groups especially love the late check-out option and free stays for kids under 16 when sharing a family room.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the décor is a bit functional rather than flashy, and the hotel can feel busy at peak times. The gym is solid but on the smaller side. Still, for the price and location, most agree it’s a great deal.

The Bottom Line

Novotel Reading Centre is a top pick for concert-goers who want a comfy, well-located hotel with late check-out, great transport links, and solid post-show recovery perks.

Unwelcoming, unsafe and unclean

Liked: Nothing to recommend.
Disliked: Certainly one of the worst hotel stays of my life, particularly at nearly £300 for one night without parking or breakfast. One of the reasons I chose this Novotel was that it stated parking was available, however this isn't true. Parking in theory costs £20 per night but the postcode given for the car park is incorrect and encourages you to drive down a bus and taxi only road. There are no directions and a tiny overhead satellite map that is impossible to interpret. After 30 minutes of driving round and round central Reading trying not to get a traffic ticket we gave up and parked 15 mins walk away. The doors of the hotel are locked by 6pm (whether you have a key or not), and you have to hammer on the windows to attract staff attention in the hope of being admitted. The staff response is disinterest and shrugged shoulders; apparently this is what guests should expect. In the room the central ceiling smoke detector had been covered by a plastic bag; this is certainly hazardous and possibly illegal, and the carpet had an incredible mix of unpleasant stains. I was so surprised by the latter two points that I took some pictures. In summary, there is nothing to recommend this hotel; woefully overpriced, wholly inaccurate in its description, unwelcoming, unsafe and unclean.

Not a pleasant stay and...

Liked: Breakfast was ok
Disliked: Cleanliness and poor facilities. Returned home after a day out to find bedsheets dirty. Ran reception and told housekeeping had gone home. They bought clean bedding and at 11.30pm myself and husband having to change sheets ourselves. Card key kept losing magnetic ID so had to on numerous occasions having to keep going to reception to have reactivated.

Upon arrival, clearly an issue...

Liked: The bed was comfortable and the TV was big.
Disliked: Cost of food and beverages, the lifts, the layout of the bedroom (toilet separate rather than in the bathroom), the pillows were too thin and flimsy, the staff on the desk, the price for the room itself and the lack of parking spaces
