Nice hotel, but we were...
Liked: The hotel is clean, with good facilities, comfortable beds, and the rooms are nice. 12pm checkout is very good. Shower, bedding and towels are all nice.
Disliked: I never leave bad reviews but we were so disappointed by this hotel for various reasons. We booked it because we're on a long month long vacation and this was a stopover so we wanted a brand we could trust so we'd be comfortable and it would all be easy.On arrival I was disappointed that the receptio staff took a deposit off my card of hundreds of euros without asking me first. They said it was a hold, but it was debited from my bank and they didn't ask first.Then our room was extremely hot and had no air novement at all. We've travelled all over southern Europe and not been hot anywhere else, but the staff insisted that it was working and kindly gave me a fan. We're not fussy people but honestly the room was very hot, I was wet / sweating just sitting still.Then we ordered room service and unfortunately there's a big premium on prices for room service so the dinner was really expensive. We decided to go for it anyway so we'd have a good meal after many hours travel but the food arrived with no condiments, no salt or pepper and we had to go to the restaurant to ask for these things. The food itself was cold, hard, dry fries I found inedible, dry club sandwich, chewy steak, and the tiramisu was tart and too sharp to eat. I am honestly not fussy but left 50% of the meal uneaten because it really tasted bad.On checkout, rather than billing me just the difference between the "deposit" they'd taken and my final bill, they tried to charge me in full. I had to argue this with them and found it awkward and embarrassing. I'm not sure how their deposits work, the funds were taken from me with no explanation and it was hundreds of euros so I wasn't going to just leave having paid them double hoping for a refund.I see it as simple: bill the guest for what they booked and agreed to pay.
