The Spotlight on Nicollet Island Inn

Historic Charm Meets Riverfront Relaxation in Minneapolis

Nicollet Island Inn is a romantic, boutique-style hotel nestled on a peaceful island in the Mississippi River, just across from downtown Minneapolis. With elegant decor, luxurious bedding, and a tranquil atmosphere, it offers a cozy retreat after a night of live music. The inn's combination of historic charm and upscale amenities makes it a unique and memorable place to stay.

Why Concert-goers love it

This inn is a short drive or quick ride-share from many of Minneapolis’ biggest venues, making it a convenient home base for your concert night. The surrounding area is calm and quiet, ideal for winding down after loud shows. With check-in at 3:00 PM and a generous check-out time of 12:00 PM, you won’t be rushed the morning after. Free WiFi and relaxing river views add to the overall comfort.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a stylish and peaceful stay
Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist and wanting a safe, scenic spot to rest
Couples planning a romantic weekend with a concert highlight
Fans who want a quieter post-concert recovery space
Budget-conscious music fans looking for quality and charm without the mega-hotel hustle

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant is award-winning and known for its scenic views and refined menu — perfect for a pre-show dinner or post-show wind down. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the dining room and outdoor patio provide a relaxed, upscale experience. Breakfast is available and ideal for a late-morning start after a night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about tranquility than party vibes, you’ll find lively bars, lounges, and music venues just across the river in downtown Minneapolis. It’s easy to head out for a night of fun and return to a peaceful, cozy room.

What People Say

Guests rave about the inn’s historic ambiance, comfortable beds, and beautiful riverfront setting. Many mention the friendly staff, elegant decor, and the delicious food served in the restaurant. It’s a favorite for couples and concert-goers looking for something a bit more special than a standard hotel.

Areas for Improvement

This place is more about charm than modern minimalism — so if you’re expecting cutting-edge tech or a gym, you might be underwhelmed. Also, while the restaurant is excellent, late-night dining options are limited on-site, so plan accordingly after a long concert night.

The Bottom Line

Nicollet Island Inn offers a peaceful, elegant escape just minutes from Minneapolis’ top concert venues — perfect for music lovers who want to enjoy the show and then truly unwind.

Lovely Inn in quiet area

Liked: The Inn was an historic building in a quieter, more natural part of the city but close to many great restaurants, walking trails, shopping, etc. The staff was very helpful with suggestions. The old bar was very cool and large selection of whisky if you like that. The restaurant was very good with view of the Mississippi.
Disliked: The Inn is a little dated with the bathroom, plumbing and HVAC. We could never get our room cool. Also the "breakfast" included very sweet muffins, yogurt, oranges, and ok coffee. I liked having bottles of water available, at least during breakfast.

Excellent friendly staff and a...

Liked: A really cool location. The building is really neat and it was nice walking around the island.
Disliked: My room on the third floor was warm and stuffy even with the climate control set to its lowest setting. Between the age of the building and it being June, I imagine there’s nothing that would have fixed this during my stay, but it was enough that I slept poorly.

Has potential

Liked: It is a charming property.
Disliked: Because of its age it lacks amenities. The breakfast was disgraceful. The muffins were like dough. The coffee was like dishwater. They have a lovely dining area with no one in it. They should offer a small breakfast o. The dining area on the days they are open. There are no common spaces within the hotel unless you go to the expensive restaurant. The place has potential, but it needs to be rethought.

Superb

Liked: Charming, clean, polite and helpful staff.
Disliked: No extra toilet paper in our room. There were not enough regular pillows on the bed.
