Very good

Great location, facilites and staff

Liked: Haven’t stayed in a hostel for years so had so much fun here. Loved the old building and facilities- can’t believe they have free surfboard and bike hire! Kitchen was great and the staff were very accomodating. Unfortunately it rained so couldn’t do much exploring but the hostel was perfect place to chill all day.
Disliked: -

Cheap hostel but for a...

Liked: Easy going staff, great location (next to the beach), cheap. It is probably acceptable for a 1 night stay if you only need a cheap place to sleep on the way to Sydney (like we did) or if you are very young and don't care much about anything but price.
Disliked: The building is very very old and it is clearly visible that some parts of it have never been cleaned (and maybe technically can't?). Windows are literally black from dirt, carpets are everywhere and as with carpets it is not hygienic, the old dust is in every corner (I made sure I do not walk barefoot anywhere). The sheets were ok, however, I used my own as I didn't feel quite comfortable putting my head on a pillow in the place like this. The fan in our room was so incredibly dirty I felt disgusted to turn it on. It looked like it has been there for 20 years and never ever cleaned (it reminded me the old oven with the rests of food in it, the kind you would never even want to eat from). There was no place to leave luggae/things in the room apart from tiny and sticky tables, so everything had to be on the floor. When I saw a huge cocorouch on the carpet in our room, I checked all my staff and I put to the car everything we did not absolutely needed. I have been to many youth hostels worldwide, and they vary immensely. This place is cheap as per location so I would say fair enough - but I would not stay there again. It was not the worst youth hostel I have ever stayed in but definitely one of the worst ones.
