The Hilton Midtown obviously doesn't need to work very hard to please it's guests. We were told at check in they have a 98% occupancy rate, largely due to convention and business travel. Too bad for those of us not on a company expense account.

Liked: Location is fabulous.
Disliked: This was our second stay in four years. There won't be a third. You expect a large hotel in the heart of midtown to be busy. And it is. What you should expect from a Hilton is service and convenience. This was not our experience. We didn't get our room cleaned on the first day because we were still in the room at 10 when housekeeping called. Amenities in our room did not include a mini bar, coffee maker or free wifi. Our room was accessible, which we did not request or require. This meant our bathroom was spacious with no counter space. Minor inconveniences that add up when you consider the room rate (high).

A decent, functional base in...

Liked: Excellent location.
Disliked: While some of the staff was lovely, others were grumpy, unhelpful, and even argumentative - "it's not My job!", one told us. The concierge seemed bored and as if our question was an inconvenience. Calling guest services takes an age and although friendly, they are not very effective - the towels missing at our 9pm arrival didn't arrive until a second call third morning and, then, only after 45 miniutes. No water or extras and no coffee making facilities in room; in the lobby, it's a long queue, $6 and as weak as dishwater. There's almost no general seating until the bar opens as it is cordoned off. In comparison to Hilton Hotels in England, Germany and Japan, in which I've stayed recently, this gave the impression of a budget hotel with an impressive entrance lobby.

Disliked: The rooms were very dirty. The description said it was a suit but it didn’t have a working fridge nor a chicken sink. Had to go to the bathroom for everything.
