Great Victorian Inn for an...

Liked: Naomi's owner is a wonderful lady and the house is lovely, with a Victorian aspect and amazingly pretty period-themed rooms. The decor is very creative and homey, with codes for privacy and security to open the outer and room doors. It was quiet as a mouse when we were there. Plenty of parking out back and there were other patrons parked there. It is a short Lyft ride from downtown Amtrak, but I would stop at the main street's grocery or restaurant first to eat or stock up the small fridge. The Prince Fort cafe is beautiful and historic inside and a few blocks only from Amtrak, with the grocery 2 blocks round the corner. We were in the Louis IV room I believe and it was classic, fairly roomy for a couple, and spotlessly clean. The neighborhood is decent and across from the hospital,
Disliked: Just minor things. The house itself is in a very nice area that feels very safe but if you go downhill towards the main street for food, Latin American bakery or China House fast food, the neighborhood is rundown, maybe safe in daylight but empty. There are supposedly nice eateries uphill on a very long and winding street in the suburban direction if you have the time. But it is fine for an overnight especially if you have a car or get your food before you get there. Springfield itself is very depressed and everyone there advised me to avoid downtown at night. It was very nice 30 years ago but now mostly poor, although the main street is nicely sprightened up. The room was very cold but it was because a prior visitor had closed the two air vents, which once she opened them was great. The only caveat I have is that the B&B breakfast is only open 8:30-9:30, which is bad if you are taking the one train at 8:30. The kitchen looks wonderful but we had to buy our breakfast at Felix Cafe near the Amtrak which was fine but reduces the good value proposition. I hope they add an hour.

Exceptional

Liked: It was exceptionally charming. Naomi is a wonderful person and a great cook. My favorite was sitting at the piano bar for breakfast and meeting people from different places. I highly recommend and will stay again if I'm in the area.

An overnight stay of a...

Liked: What a lovely quite place to stay. Room was exceptional and the bed was so comfortable. Just what I expected when I saw the room. Period pieces made the room special even with the large screen TV, which we all need in a room. Bathroom was clean and well appointed with everything you could possible need. Breakfast was homemade and delicious and was served by the very welcoming hostess who was fun to talk with. The only place to stay if you have a loved one who needed a stay at Baystate Hospital and you are not allowed to be with them. A wonderful place to spend the night. If you ever need a place to stay in the Springfield are you must check it out. You will not be disappointed. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Disliked: Mattress was worn out, sunken in middle. Kind of noisy with sirens throughout the night being across from a hospital
