Room disappointing, underwhelmed decor and...

Liked: Location for Brecon Beacons NP. Property grounds.
Disliked: Room tired and requiring refresh, not what I’d class as superior and very soft mattress. Decor poor. Evening restaurant food quality poor for the prices charged.

Exceptional

Liked: Very friendly staff, gone the extra mile to make our stay memorable as it was our wedding anniversary.
Disliked: The bed felt like it was going to break.

Great staff, great food, details...

Liked: Have to admit - a bit of a slow burn on this one. We had just come from another 5* hotel, and when we arrived it was getting dark, it was raining, and the room was (relatively) quite sparse, and just a bit tired. However, once we re-calibrated from a place that cost (literally) twice as much, it got better! The location can't be faulted, and having the pool to soothe tired walking legs was a real bonus. Pool was warm, but not too warm, and the spa bit looked well done too, although we didn't use that bit, or the gym. Very good breakfast, and evening meals - and when we ordered 'off piste' - for example, adding or removing items from the set cooked food, this was no problem. It appears to be well used by locals as well as visitors for food. Staff are friendly, and very happy to accommodate.
Disliked: Ok - there are few issues, and I can see why the reviews are a mixed bag - it's the silly details. There were supplied the obligatory tiny shampoo bottles - but only shampoo, and one of them was already open. No biggie, it's soap - but...The TV's - there were two in our suite - didn't work when it rained. No signal. I know- it's wales, and there are hills in the way. But cable and satellite are a thing these days. There was a pump grumbling away somewhere.. not noisy, just - there. Bathroom could do with a bit a a repaint. The bar area is a pub style bar, so there is no resident's lounge as such - no comfy armchairs. This all said - we came from an expensive 5*, so we were already spoilt. Would I stay again? - yes, and that says it all really. It's a great place, cracking location, and both food and staff are great, but just a teensy bit of attention to detail, and it could be 9/10 all day long..

Very Great Weekend

Liked: Wonderful place and in Merthyr and Welsh people are very welcoming with good hospitality with good values.
Disliked: The property is very nice and the food is to die beautiful. Only few thing is needs to refurb the bedroom I was in, the bath and taps sink shower and cover, and needs little fridge and cupboards need hangers or new cupboards

Disliked: Bathroom had no shower which was very unusual and was also very poorly fitted with all the sealant coming away and a smell of damp and drains. So much that I can smell on on my pyjamas..Bed was big but the mattress was soft and lumpyVery poor WiFi

Good position for us but...

Liked: The position to family but a fast road needed to be very aware when leaving. Food okay.
Disliked: Needs a revamp, rooms and hallways need a wipe down and repaint It had an ensuite but a handheld shower spray over the bath is not really ideal in this day and age.
