The Spotlight on Motel 6-Portland ME

Affordable Convenience Close to Portland's Music Action

Modern essentials meet budget-friendly comfort at Motel 6-Portland ME. Situated just off Interstate 95, this colorful and no-frills motel puts you around 4.5 miles from downtown Portland's thriving concert scene, while offering a quiet place to crash after the encore. With free basic WiFi, 24-hour front desk service, and a pet-friendly policy, it’s a solid pick for travelers who want to keep things simple and save more for merch and tickets.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and Motel 6-Portland ME delivers with quick highway access and a short drive to Portland’s top music venues. After a late-night show, you’ll appreciate the 24-hour front desk and easy parking. While it’s not in the heart of the action, that distance helps keep things quiet for post-concert recovery. Plus, late check-in (from 3:00 PM) makes arriving after a gig stress-free.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a cost-effective base
  • Solo travelers chasing a bucket-list performance
  • Couples wanting a no-fuss weekend away
  • Fans craving a quieter night’s sleep after the crowd clears
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who prefer to save for the show

Food and Drink Options

While the motel itself doesn’t have on-site dining, it’s a short drive to local diners, fast food, and casual restaurants. For those late-night cravings, nearby spots offer quick bites until midnight. You won’t find 24/7 room service here, but the motel’s location near town means you’re not far from a hearty breakfast the morning after.

Nightlife Options

You won’t find live music on-site, but downtown Portland’s bars, breweries, and live venues are less than 15 minutes away by car. Whether you’re catching a show or heading out for post-concert drinks, you’re close enough to join the scene—and far enough to sleep through it.

What People Say

Guests often highlight the motel’s affordable rates, clean rooms, and friendly staff. Reviews on Booking.com and TripAdvisor mention the easy access to downtown and simple check-in process. Travelers appreciate the pet-friendly policy and the convenience of free parking for road trippers.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t a luxury stay—expect basic furnishings and limited in-room amenities. Some guests note that the WiFi can be spotty and that the motel shows its age in places. If you’re after plush bedding or boutique decor, this might not be your scene.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want a simple, affordable place to sleep near Portland’s music venues, Motel 6-Portland ME hits all the right notes.

Filthy, horrible smells, and drug...

Liked: Absolutely nothing
Disliked: When we arrived there were a ton of people aimlessly milling about the parking lot. We check in and walk through the dingy hall to the elevator, where there is a sock on the floor. We go to our room and it smells awful, like a very bad odor had been covered up with copious amounts of cheap air freshener. In the room, I start to think maybe this isn’t going to work out. I look out the window and see a man exit the hotel lobby, go to his car, grab something, then walk up to a man who was walking from one corner of the parking lot to the other. They quickly “shake hands” then walk in separate directions. What do you think they were doing? I see this happen two more times. I take a look at the pillow cases and they have blotches of yellow stains. I say to my brother, “we can’t stay here.” I know it’s a Motel 6 - I don’t expect the Ritz, but this is on another level. I go down to the lobby to inquire about a refund and he says the manager is out and she’s the only one who can offer a refund. I cut my losses and get a different hotel. Next day, I call the manager. She says she’s shocked to hear about the parking lot activities and they have a “zero tolerance policy.” She says she’d be happy to offer a refund but since I booked it through booking (even though I paid on arrival to Motel 6) that I’d have to talk to them, and she’d be happy to tell them to refund my stay. So I call Booking, and they’re great. They’re happy to help. They say they’ll get in touch with the hotel and request my refund, which they do. But SURPRISE, the hotel isn’t willing to offer my refund anymore. In short, don’t stay at this hotel unless you’re in the market for illicit substances and are fine sleeping on a bed that the previous guest probably OD’d in. EDIT: The hotel has initiated a refund.

About what you’d expect from...

Liked: Friendly staff, easy location
Disliked: Elevator felt unsafe and didn’t have its certification posted. Beds were so hard they were uncomfortable to sleep on. Water pressure was absurdly hard.
