The Spotlight on Monkey Island Estate - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Elegant riverside hideaway near Windsor with timeless charm

Set on a private island in the River Thames, Monkey Island Estate - Small Luxury Hotels of the World blends historic grandeur with modern luxury. Located in Bray, just over 6 miles from Windsor Castle and concert venues nearby, this 5-star hotel offers serene surroundings, stylish rooms, and a one-of-a-kind post-show escape. Think manicured gardens, luxe interiors, and a refined country house atmosphere — all within easy reach of Dorney Lake and top Berkshire entertainment spots.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is perfect for music lovers looking to unwind in style after a live show. It’s less than a 20-minute drive from major venues in Windsor and Maidenhead, and a great option for those attending events at Dorney Lake. The peaceful island setting means zero city noise interference after the encore, and the 24-hour front desk makes late check-ins a breeze. With fast WiFi and a concierge ready to help with post-show transport back from the venue, it's a smooth fit for night owls.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a luxe weekend base
  • Solo travelers chasing artists in a calm, safe setting
  • Couples wanting a romantic recovery after the show
  • Fans needing peace and quiet after a high-energy night
  • Budget-conscious music fans who occasionally treat themselves

Food and Drink Options

Enjoy classic British fare at the on-site restaurant, where vegetarian, vegan, and dairy-free diets are all catered for. While there's no 24/7 room service, the hotel does offer late dining options and a cozy bar perfect for a nightcap. Breakfast is available — ideal for those who need a slow start after a late evening.

Nightlife Options

While the island itself is tranquil, you’re just a short drive from the pubs and lounges of Maidenhead and Windsor. The hotel bar is laid-back, with a refined selection of craft cocktails, perfect for winding down without the bustle. No live music on-site, but that’s part of the appeal for guests seeking quiet after the gig.

What People Say

Guests rave about the gorgeous setting, calling it "a perfect mix of nature and luxury." The rooms get high marks for being stylish and comfortable, and many love the river views. Staff are praised for being warm, attentive, and helpful with local recommendations. Travelers highlight the peaceful post-concert atmosphere and the feeling of exclusivity.

Areas for Improvement

This is a rural luxury retreat, so it's not ideal for those wanting to step out into vibrant nightlife. You’ll need to plan transport to and from venues, especially if you’re not driving. And while the island setting is stunning, mobile signal can be patchy in some areas — though WiFi is strong.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a serene, luxurious base near Windsor with easy venue access and a restful vibe, Monkey Island Estate is a concert-goer’s dream retreat.

Very good - would recommend.

Liked: Staff very friendly and helpful. It was our 25 year anniversary and we were left a welcome note with free bottle of bubbly in our fridge which was a lovely touch.Room very comfortable and the location is stunning and special-event-worthy!Breakfast was generally good. Yogurt, fruit, and other continental-style pastries all good quality; fresh choice of fruit juice, bread butter and jams. A decent cup of coffee. Plenty of choice in a lovely setting.
Disliked: Minor moan is for breakfast time: Baacon and black-pudding didn't appear to have been cooked fresh, both were dry and warm and had probably been sitting on hotplate too long. Poached eggs were a mix: 2 soft-boiled (firm, not so good on Eggs Florentine); 2 with runny yolks (good).Service was very polite and friendly, but slow given the restaurant only had about 5 small tables in.

Just fantastic!

Liked: Fabulous location, beautiful hidden gem. Close to Windsor and Heathrow airport but you felt your were in the countryside! Stayed in the Barn - very quiet.
Disliked: No lift in the barn…. Struggled with lifting my case up the steep stairs

Not quite what I expected

Liked: The surroundings were beautiful, the staff very friendly
Disliked: Our room was cramped, only one bedside table and reading light for a double bed, very little room to move around or to put our belongings

Mixed. Lovely setting, disappointed with...

Liked: The grounds are beautiful. The staff are lovely.
Disliked: Our room was too small. The bed was far too big for the room. No bedside table on one side. A huge chair by the desk making access to the fridge difficult. Sharp metal corners of the bed frame sticking out beyond the mattress. I have several bruises.
