Very good
Liked: The room was comfortable, clean and offered nice amenities, its smaller than it looks on the photos but still a good size, extremely sound proof, we were right by a street ally and could not hear anything outside the window or through the. room door, the bathroom floor is heated and had a steam shower
Disliked: The pool is advertised as if it was a part of the hotel amenities but the pool is at best mediocre and it is a part of the bar restaurant, you have to consume by either dining or drinking to be able to use the pool and if you want a towel there is a charge of £5. It’s a rather small pool and it will be crowded with 5 people in it, to get to it you would have to go thru a crowd.

It was more expensive than...
Liked: It was our honeymoon and they left us a lovely bottle of champagne which was a nice touch.
Disliked: The room was small and dark, the pool was smaller than it looked in the pictures. We also had to pay £100 on arrival (to be refunded) which was quite surprising after the amount we had spent on the room and the staff member wasn't particularly nice about it. The breakfast was very expensive for a small a la carte meal. There was a steam shower which was a strange concept as no where to sit down except on the bathroom floor. It basically didn't have the luxury feel we were looking for on our special night. Maybe the more expensive rooms would have been nicer but there are better hotels out there for a midrange budget with bigger rooms and more luxury facilities for the same price.

We absolutely loved our stay....
Liked: The attention to detail in the rooms was superb. The mini bar, the shower gel/shampoo/conditioner, the lighting (even the wardrobe lights up when opened and you can see everything easily). The decor is modern and trendy. The beds are HUGE and comfortable. At first the bedroom appeared a little small but the design made it very spacious and functional. The bathroom was HUGE and gorgeous and tastefully done. It was a 30 degree weekend so the rooftop bar and restaurant came into its own. We felt like we were on the continent. The rooftop pool seating is a bit limited so if it’s a bit busy you may have to wait for a seat. There was a DJ on the Friday night and a singer at breakfast on the Saturday. The downstairs bar was also fabulous and great for a nightcap after a night out.
Disliked: Nothing - loved everything

Superb
Liked: Great gym. Steam shower was amazing. Lovely room and hotel decor was great too
Disliked: Wish we were a bit better informed about the fact that the upstairs restaurant is really an Ibiza style bar with food. Great atmosphere though!

Great location, very comfortable hotel.
Liked: In a great location near Liverpool Street station, close to Broadgate, Shoreditch and Spitalfields market.
Disliked: We have stayed here before , and the food was very good. Unfortunately the restaurant in the lower floor is now closed, and you would expect a hotel of this standard to have a good restaurant. There is the marlin on the top floor but this really small plates only in the evening and is more of a chill out bar area.

Stay with downstairs staff if...
Liked: Vibe of the hotel has (usually) a good adult feel. The staff in the downstairs bar ( hidden grooves) saved the rating from a 3 or a 4 they were amazing this weekend (June 20-22). Massage was also excellent! Great beds, no noise, love late check out !
Disliked: We are vegan and have ordered the vegan breakfast a few times. Every time we are given butter with it. We can't eat butter. We asked for flora / other plant based butter but none ever available. Jam was offered (which doesn't go with avocado really). We can only eat vegan main meals in our room (as if we are doing something wrong and can't eat in public). There are only chips available downstairs and peppers upstairs otherwise. - The service in the pool top bar is awful up there and a female member of staff told us we could have what ever vegan food is on the room service menu in hidden grooves (downstairs bar). She swiftly snapped all menus off us ( we had been drinking cocktails up to this point from the menu). We went down as informed but we were told no we couldn't eat the room service food there, only in the room. There's no vegan mains to eat in any of the bars/restaurants. Roof top bar. I waited 25 mins to be given a drinks menu (after asking for it) this weekend and then a further 30 mins to place an order. I then went for a massage. I returned to my husband 40 mins later and he had only at that point managed to order a drink. The staff, especially a female member of staff acted as though we were an incredible inconvenience every time we asked to spend money. We would have spent a lot more if someone had taken our orders frequently.Children on the rooftop bar after 12midday - on the website it' states they are not allowed.. Apparently, this is not a rule applied to people staying at the hotel . We only stay at virgin when we don't have the children with us in london. I feel the hotel has a more adult vibe and I don't think people appreciate children being taught to swim in the snug roof top pool amongst people enjoying themselves with bottles of wine, coupled with loud music, and a hen do etc at 3pm onwards. It's really the wrong vibe and perhaps the timings need to be rethought.
