Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Hoover/Birmingham

Even though Microtel didn’t receive...

Liked: Roof over my head. Bed to sleep in. Coffee in the tam.
Disliked: Wow! Room was 52degrees when I went in, and stayed fairly chilly throughout. I was told by night clerk that there would be a blanket in room. I had driven 22 hours straight through and was real tired. Looking forward to a nap. Presented my confirmation number. Bookings.com. No reservation at the Microtel could be found. I had to call Egypt at United States time ca 2:30 am and find my reservation. At any rate the parking lot appeared fairly sparse, and I believed that I was getting the runaround. Unhappy was I. Night clerk finally telephoned his boss, then matters seemed to get resolved. Breakfast was curious. Coffee was seriously hard to come by. It was okay though, as I knew I’d be on the road soon and could get some. I had to reuse the tray in the in room coffee pot, as all that was provided was a the tiny pouch of coffee. I was hoping that the last twenty people who had brewed in the little plastic basket were as hygienic as I and washed their hands following handling their “junk” in the bathroom before, during and after making coffee in the NON-REUSABLE PLASTIC TRAY!!! Terrible. At breakfast, I needed to ask the manager for additional ‘egg’ patties. There was only one put out for breakfast goers who came down nearing the end of service time. It appeared that there was a family staying there (longer term), that brought their own Raisin Bran, as I ran into Mom in the elevator as she was bringing it up for her kids. Not interested in the ‘buffet’.

Staff was nice and apologetic....

Disliked: When we arrived to our room it was 90+ degrees inside and dead cockroaches in the floor. I called the front desk to request another room. He apologized and brought us a key to another room. The next room seemed to be better initially. But later noticed black mold on and under the toilet seat. It was already late so I just cleaned it the best I could. We slept for a few hours and got out quickly the next morning. Very bad! Will not stay here again!

Disliked: No pool, no refrigerator. Bed sounded like it was falling apart every time you moved. AC was loud and obnoxious.

Disliked: Had continental breakfast offered until 9am. At 8am nothing remained besides cereal. Didn't restock anything as there were empty heating pans and place for bagels, toast etc but remained empty

Disliked: The room was dirty. There was long black hairs on the bedding as well as all over the floor in the bathroom. I do not have long black hair
