The Spotlight on Merland Park Cottages and Motel

Lakeside Charm Meets Music-Lover Convenience

Modern comfort meets rustic charm at Merland Park Cottages and Motel, a cozy and relaxing stay located in picturesque Picton. Set along the shores of Lake Ontario, this laid-back property offers a mix of motel rooms and private cottages—perfect for travelers looking to unwind between shows. With scenic views, a seasonal outdoor pool, and nature all around, it’s a serene base that still keeps you within reach of live music action at venues like The Empire Theatre just under 25 miles away.

Why Concert-goers love it

Despite the peaceful setting, Merland Park is surprisingly well-connected for those heading to shows. The Empire Theatre is just a scenic 30-minute drive away, and the calm, lakeside location means you can return to a quiet, restful space after the encore. Free parking makes it stress-free for drivers, and the motel’s outdoor spaces and patios are great for post-show wind-downs. Each unit has a fridge and coffee maker—handy for late-night or early morning needs.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to share a cottage and enjoy the outdoors between concerts
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list artist and wanting a peaceful base
  • Couples planning a music-filled weekend escape
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space with nature and lake views
  • Budget-conscious music fans who don’t mind a short drive for a great deal

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site restaurant, each unit includes a fridge, oven, and coffee machine—great for prepping simple meals or snacks. Downtown Picton’s local eateries are just a short drive away, offering late bites and cozy breakfast spots perfect for a slow morning after a lively night. Stocking up on supplies and dining in is easy here.

Nightlife Options

Though Merland Park itself is more about peace than parties, Picton’s charming downtown has a few bars and lounges worth exploring. For those wanting to keep the night going after a show, nearby venues offer live music and drinks. But if you’re more into stargazing from your private patio with a cold drink, this place fits the bill.

What People Say

Guests love the scenic lakeside location, friendly hosts, and clean, comfortable accommodations. Many highlight the great value and the relaxing atmosphere, making it a favorite for those wanting to disconnect after a busy day. Families and groups often praise the cottages for their space and convenience.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention the Wi-Fi can be spotty in certain cottages, and the drive to concert venues may not suit those looking to walk. The 10:00 AM check-out is a bit early for late-night music fans, so plan accordingly.

The Bottom Line

For music lovers wanting a peaceful, nature-filled place to recharge after a concert, Merland Park Cottages and Motel is a hidden gem in Picton.

Long weekend getaway

Liked: Our first time booking a cottage in PEC. Well supplied and maintained cottages. Short drive (or long walk) onto main strip of Picton and to Sandbanks. Very pet friendly location.

Great spot on the water...

Liked: Location was amazing, and we loved sitting on the water and soaking up the view. Appreciated having the BBQ and some games available.
Disliked: Two bedroom suite was not quite as expected. The first bedroom was, in fact, the main room - had no doors or privacy. The bathroom was off this room. Second bedroom was behind Grench doors, so limited privacy. The table was in here. The fridge in the main room. Made sharing the space a bit awkward. All in all, while we had a great time it's a bit pricy for what we got. That said, the whole area is expensive.

Very good

Liked: Our cottage was nice place and spacious. It had everything that we needed.
Disliked: There was a group of people who monopolized the firepit and the dock area, so we could never use it. Just the timing of when we were there. The website could be improved and have interior pictures available. Also, the prices should be listed.
