Pleasant - 3.0 out of 5

I had a pleasant dinner...

Liked: The hotel sits in very surroundings but ultimately the rooms do not live up to the location. While some of the team were very attentive and friendly I felt the check in and check out staff where slightly dismissive and did not set the tone well.
Disliked: The room was clean but not welcoming. The space was large but the room lacked character. It looked very like a hostel room. The car park is cramped and not big enough for the venue.

Very good

Liked: We loved the room, how big & clean it was, however we didn't have a great view as we were @ the side of the building. The actual building was historical & well kept. The grounds, gardens lake etc... were very nice. The waitress @ breakfast was very good & friendly which we appreciated
Disliked: We were disappointed that the jacuzzi was out of action/condemned(it is an essential part for a spa area. Also the lesser heat steamroom was STILL not working another part of the spa area.As I already the staff @ breakfast were very pleasant, hard working & kept on top of things eg keeping the buffet topped up,replenishing the breads, fruits & hot food.Taking additional ordersIt was a very relaxing atmosphere. On the opposite scale of staff performance were the receptionists. We weren't made to feel welcome, the info was sparse.Had to ask about breakfast but not given any times as to when it would be start/ finish & to find the restaurant. On checkout again it felt cold.

Disappointing

Liked: Room and food
Disliked: Staff and external eating facilities were poor including dirty and uncleared tables. Some policies seemed bizarre e.g sandwiches were only available in the evening if they were taken as room service - why?e.g. Even though the room had been fully paid for in advance we had to leave a further £50 holding deposit.

Lovely - would definitely return.

Liked: Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good. Room was very clean. Stunning grounds.
Disliked: We visited a few years ago, couple of areas outside(think old conservatory which is now part of kitchen area) needed attention then, still looking sad. Fences need painting, some wood areas need mending, which are days work but let the property down.

Liked: staff were very friendly and polite on check in and in the dining room. Sunday lunch was very good again staff very accommodating re my husbands birthday. Room was very clean on arrival.
Disliked: Empty glasses needed collecting outside - made it look below standard and we were sat for a long time and they were left on many tables.
