Why Concert-goers love it

Just a short walk to some of Sheffield’s biggest music venues, this hotel is a favorite for fans who want a stress-free concert night. Late check-out at 12:00 means you don’t have to rush the morning after the show, and the central location makes it easy to find taxis or walk back even after the encore. The rooms are well insulated, so it’s easy to unwind post-gig without street noise.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central base with great facilities
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list act
  • Couples making a weekend of it with spa time and cocktails
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space with spa access and plush beds
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want a little luxury without leaving town

Food and Drink Options

The Yard Restaurant serves modern British dishes with a focus on steaks and fresh seafood, ideal for a pre-show dinner. There's also a champagne bar and classic cocktails available for a celebratory drink. For late-night cravings, 24-hour room service has you covered. Breakfast is served late enough to satisfy those recovering from a late night.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel keeps things relaxed, it’s just minutes from Sheffield’s buzzing nightlife—bars, pubs, and lounges are all in easy walking distance. The on-site bar is a great spot to kick off or wind down your night with a local craft cocktail.

What People Say

Reviews consistently praise the spa and wellness area, with guests loving the sauna, steam room, and indoor pool. The location gets top marks for being walkable to venues, restaurants, and the train station. Guests also highlight the comfortable beds and friendly staff as major pluses.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the hotel can get busy during peak weekends, especially when big events are on. A few reviewers noted that Wi-Fi can be spotty in certain rooms, so it's worth checking at check-in if you need a strong connection.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Sheffield for a concert and want central location, comfort, and a touch of luxury, Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s Hotel & Spa hits every note.

Poor - 1.5 out of 5

Key card issues and outdated...

Disliked: I was genuinely looking forward to a relaxing stay, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The key card to my room didn’t work for the entirety of my visit, meaning I had to rely on staff assistance every time I needed access. This was not only inconvenient but also disruptive to the sense of privacy and ease one expects from a hotel stay.Additionally, the gymnasium was a major letdown. The equipment was outdated, with several machines either non-functional or in poor condition. For guests who value wellness amenities, this was a disappointment and clearly in need of urgent investment and refurbishment. While the staff were polite and tried to be helpful, the persistent access issues and neglected facilities made it difficult to enjoy the stay. I hope the hotel takes these concerns seriously and makes improvements for future guests.

Comfy but not great value...

Liked: Good location and comfy, spacious room
Disliked: Hotel charged us £35 to check in early even though the key card machine wasn’t working so we couldn’t have a key card for our whole stay, we had to be let in and out of the room by a staff member manually, which was dependent on their availability.

The building and the room...

Liked: The room was really nice and decent, really nice bathroom also.
Disliked: They keys for the rooms were not working, staff had to walk with you to your rooms which meant waiting around for an available member of staff every time you wanted to fetch something from your room or enter, staff also looked fed up which we understood but also wasn’t our fault

Great location, lovely big room,...

Liked: Location is fab, no parking at hotel but discount at nearby q park if staying at hotel.
Disliked: Pool and spa facilities could do with an upgrade. Some door locks broken in changing area and not all lockers working. Spa treatments offered to be booked by using phone in room to book but our room had no phone.
