Disappointing

Liked: The staff were friendly
Disliked: Our first room had a broken toilet seat immediately on entry. Staff were helpful and changed us to a new room, however even the toilet seat in our new room leaned on your back as you sat on the toilet. The entire level 2 had clearly been recently painted, paint fumes were so strong in the hallway, we didn’t notice anything in the room but later learned our windows had been left open by staff (no fly screens and it had been pouring rain all day) to air the smell from the room - immediately when we closed the windows for the night, the paint fumes became so strong in the room that we had headaches. Our shower head leaked. There was no sound proofing in the walls, could literally hear everything from other rooms and in the hallway. We requested room service (we stayed for two nights) whilst we were out of the room during the morning as it was scheduled to rain again later, staff said they’d try. We were out of the room for 2 hours and came back to the room not being serviced. We went back down to request again and waited another hour. Returned and the room still had not been done. A third request to staff and the room was finally apparently “serviced”, came back to only new bathroom towels - the beds were unmade, no new milk or tea (which was complimentary). This hotel charged more per night than neighbouring hotels such as Rydges and Crystalbrook and it was a shame that it fell so short. The staff were nice and that was really the only thing that saved it for us during our stay.

Very poor!

Liked: Location
Disliked: Bath & shower combination, water pressure was poor. There was people’s hair up the walls near the toilet. No parking available for my vehicle. Body wash in shower was empty.Dirty carpet chewing gum behind bed side table.

Not pleased, I wouldn't stay...

Liked: There was a running hot shower?
Disliked: From the moment I entered my room, I noticed the air conditioning was not functioning as expected. Despite adjusting the settings repeatedly, the unit continued to blow warm air throughout the night. This made the room uncomfortably hot, especially during the evening when I was trying to rest. What made the situation worse was the unexpected appearance of what seemed to be small flies or bugs around my bed during the night. I believe the warm, stagnant air may have contributed to this, and it left me feeling uneasy in a space where I expected comfort and cleanliness.Between the excessive heat and the presence of bugs, I lost a significant amount of sleep. This was particularly frustrating as I had chosen Mercure with the expectation of a restful and quality experience, which unfortunately was not delivered on this occasion.

Horrible, reported ACCOR, who passed...

Liked: Breakfast was acceptable
Disliked: Please read ALL. Atrocious cleaning. The worst I have ever been expose to. My room 115 found body piercing items (two) and found toenail clippings (Qty 10) on the carpet floor. Chocolate cake on the floor and used tissue paper behind the kitchenette bin. Both rooms 109 and 115 bathtubs had hair in them, and I had a long black hair around the provided drinking glass. Later I found blood on my pillow. The fridge was filthy. Shower tap leaked all night and had to place shower head in a position to avoid noise all night. The cleaning lady who came to vacuum the room had not cleaned out the vacuum and when using it, it smelt out the whole room with a wet dog smell (sorry dog lovers) and had to open windows and she was apologetic. My staff had to leave room. No other rooms available!! As per other reviews, the rooms are dark, not enough lighting. We emailed ACCOR via the website, who contacted the Manager of Mercure Newcastle. We received a very apologetic email stating they will do their best to rectify the issues and requested me to contact Booking.Com, for an agreed total reimbursement. Nothing received yet! Past reviews have mentioned similar issues we raised. One or two issues you would put up with as I would very rarely complain, but our stay was disgraceful. Management I am waiting your follow-up. Will keep you posted readers.
