Excellent room
Liked: There have been some recent substantially differing reviews about this hotel on Google ranging from horrible to superb. I can only comment about my own experience. I only stayed one night on a business trip so did not have the chance to use all the facilities. My room (number 3) was large with a decent bathroom and it had been recently fully refurbished. The bed was enormous possibly a Super King. Weather was very hot but this was not a problem as the room had a powerful air conditioning unit. The reception staff were very helpful and polite plus there was plentiful parking space available. I had a reasonable evening meal at the hotel restaurant and the bar staff were very friendly.
Disliked: No issues.

Wonderful staff but shoddy hotel...
Liked: The room was comfortable and above all else the staff were brilliant…friendly and highly professional. Breakfast was great, as were the staff who were present.
Disliked: The hotel refurbishment has been done on the cheap. In our room, the toilet paper holder was upside down and not screwed on correctly, the TV was hanging off the wall and the bolts were loose so it flopped down at a 45 degree angle, there were two screw heads by the toilet that were only half screwed in the wall and would tear the skin off your legs, there was a hole drilled in the floor of the main bar with loose wires sticking up through the floorboards (highly illegal). Everywhere you look there were bodged repair done cheaply. There are too many examples to mention, but another that typifies the hotel is in the main toilets off the bar where the cleaning cupboard has had the door broken and is therefore left open with all the old rags and cleaning products on display, the hand dryer doesn’t work, there was no hand drying towel and the room was painted a dark shade of dirty purple. It all just felt unloved and uncared for. Despite the buildings rich history, the furniture is dreadful 1980 retro which is cheap and uncomfortable. In summary, despite the staffs supreme efforts to support, the place feels like it is stuck in a 1970/80s time warp. All that is fine, but not at £157 a night.
