Wonderful family wedding venue.
Liked: Perfect for a family wedding. Friendly staff. Spacious, comfortable, clean rooms. Beautiful setting. Excellent pool facility. Glad of a delicious dinner after a long 5 hour journey. Great breakfast with a lot of choices. We like the combination of the old hall and new modern facilities.
Disliked: Difficulty carrying luggage up the steep staircase to Lytton Suite.

Comfortable, lovely breakfast and staff.
Liked: The rooms, the bar and breakfast area and the staff. Proximity to Hitchin.
Disliked: The bathroom seemed very dated. Didn’t like how we had to leave the building to get to the reception/ bar/ breakfast areas. No information about using the leisure facilities during our stay.

A very disappointing place that...
Liked: Staff were trying but the place needs a serious look at before calling itself 4 star... The Nuffield pool had a decent hairdryer and wasn't in a basement like a lot of pools.
Disliked: The general vibe is really corporate outside the old building. Needs bedding in with some foliage and details and loads of it is not yet finished from the refurb, which meant workmen and cones everywhere and a general feeling of dustiness. No way to get to the bar or breakfast area or pool without going outside. The pool is actually a Nuffield health centre so not private to the hotel and a bit of a faff to use as well as not very glamorous although they have decent hairdryers. The closest parking was blocked up with skips and workers' vehicles. The water glasses in the room were cardboard takeaway cups and there was no loo brush. The rooms were very hot with no way to cool them down save a rather feeble desk fan that didn't cut the mustard and was very loud. No plugs next to the bed to charge a phone. No fresh lemon or lime slices at the bar. The staff offered to go and cut some but that should be a given in any bar that you serve a gin and tonic with a fresh squeeze of something. It feels and looks like a bad Premier Inn tacked on to a pretty old building that has been cheaply done up. Very much not 4 star.

A nice stay, but not...
Liked: Remote location, quiet in nice grounds
Disliked: Room dated, bathroom old and falling apart. Toilet seat hanging off, bath very much 90s. Small TV
