Mercure Haydock Hotel

Dated, expensive room and breakfast...

Liked: The bed was comfortable and shower was powerful and easy to use. Lots of free parking and the location was good
Disliked: Air conditioning did not work. Room decor very dated. Turned up early but was told I would have to pay extra to book in but at another Mercure hotel that was not the case. Breakfast expensive as at the other Mercure hotel it was £7.50 cheaper.Room card did not work on my second night stay so had to walk all the way back to reception to get a new key card with no explanation.

Enjoyable, didn't let the evening...

Liked: The breakfast food and choice was super. Hotel location was ideal for us.
Disliked: Very disappointed with the service for our evening meal. We ordered about 8-15 but due to a mix up in the kitchen we didn't get served till after nine, by the time we'd eaten it was too late to order desserts. The food was lovely but the service was poor.

Wish I had booked another...

Liked: The entrance and car park are very good
Disliked: On arrival I was informed that even though I had booked and had confirmation, plus I had checked in on line , plus I am an Accor All member, that there was no longer a room for me and I would need to go to another hotel nearby which was an Ibis. The reason I was given that the room was not available was that it had flooded and therefore because of health and safety I wouldn’t be able to stay in the room. I was on a work stay with a colleague from overseas , I had to make arrangements for meeting him the next morning and leave him on his own in the hotel that night. Before leaving for the other hotel that I was told to go to, I asked to see the room that had been flooded, the lady at reception went away and came back with a manager and I was informed that actually I could have a room. I’ve been going to hotels for many decades. I have never been treated like this before, anywhere.In the room I found a Broken air conditioner system, not functioning at all , broken chain on plug in sink, no fan in room to help on a very hot day .Quite frankly I was embarrassed to bring my work colleague to this hotel , for over £100 I don’t expect to go into a room which looks tired and has an air conditioning system which is not functioning whatsoever. The restaurant menu was very basic, more like average pub food. Breakfast was ok, would have e liked some different egg options, apart from mass produced scrambled egg. Staff at bar and at breakfast all nice.
