nice hotel but noisy location.

Liked: the hotel itself is fine, as are the staff , the building is grand and imposing and it is just across from Exeter central station ( we got the train to Paignton and left the car at the hotel as parking is VERY limited and first come first served. The room was clean and well decorated, the bed big and comfortable and there was a view of the towers of the Cathedral.
Disliked: The only downside (on a Friday and Saturday night at least) is the level of noise from outside, being an older building the hotel had secondary glazing rather than double glazing and this meant even with windows closed a lot of the revelry from outside could be heard, if you are a heavy sleeper probably not a problem but for me certainly was , including the loud blast of drum music from somewhere at 5.20 am ! Maybe I should have expected this from a city centre hotel but Ive had more peaceful nights in the centre of London! The other negative is parking which is limited and 10 extra a night.

Liked: The hotel was adequate but not exceptional
Disliked: The decor & lighting in the room was basic

Poor - 0.5 out of 5

Very poor

Liked: No heating as the heating was broken , mo restaurant only bar food
Disliked: It was quoted as a four star like its sister hotel but I stayed last week at the sister hotel and they are nothing like each other. This hotel is a dump like a 3 star

It did the job

Disliked: The draw back for us was it was a busy hotel with nowhere to park your car we had to drive to a car park a way away and bring our cases to the reception but had a quiet a walk. The hotel was fine we didn?t pay a lot so wasn?t expecting a lot and it was clean, staff where friendly.

Bad night in a good...

Liked: Location is ideal. Building is impressive. But car park is very small.
Disliked: Decor was tired. Walls were so thin we were kept awake by snoring, coughing, etc form the neighbouring room. Service was slack: waited half an hour for room service to bring a drink from the bar, before running out of time and cancelling it. no apology.

A lovely trip all round

Liked: Staff went above and beyond for my partners 21st by having a card and little cake in the room. As well as letting me send balloons to be put in the room.
