A nice stay, but be...
Liked: The room was pleasant enough, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and functional, with complimentary products. Breakfast was quite nice, not particularly varied, but all very edible: cooked English breakfast, a few pastries, toast, fruit, the usual affair. I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but if you don't book it with your room, it's continuously offered to you at a lower and lower price. In the end we paid about £10ea at the check in desk. The pool and spa facility is small and dated, but generally clean and tidy, with leisure towels included. We had a couple of their "social bites" when in the bar in the evening. The chicken wings were nice, but needed more sauce. The cod tacos were delicious!
Disliked: There was a notable lack of any tea or coffee facilities as promised in the room. The amenities they claim to offer, such as the pool, gym, and spa services are sneakily not advertised as included in the room booking, despite the suggestion that they are. They are £10ea if you want to use them for the day as a resident. At check in, we were provided with very little information about the hotel itself, like where the restaurant is, what time the bar shuts, what time check out is, etc. The receptionist seemed to have better things to do.Whilst we were there, there was some kind of party or conference on, which is fine, you can't expect a hotel to control every guest, and being the weekend, we didn't mind really. But the bass still thumping at 2am was a bit late, considering we were staying some distance away from their function room as well. Not to mention that they clearly didn't have enough staff working in the bar(s), as we waited a good long while for drinks in a dead lobby, whilst cocktails were being ferried into the next room. And even 2 for £20 on cocktails is a bit much when the trainee staff member is still reading them out of the book. After going for breakfast on our last day, our room key had already timed out, shutting us out of the room prematurely, resulting in another long walk back to the lobby area to have it fixed. That definitely made it feel like we were being shuffled out of the door.
