The Spotlight on Mercure Bristol North The Grange Hotel

Tranquil Country Escape Just Minutes from Bristol’s Buzz

Modern comfort meets classic countryside charm at Mercure Bristol North The Grange Hotel, a 4-star country house nestled in serene woodland surroundings. Located just 7.5 miles from Bristol’s vibrant music and nightlife scene, this historic 1851 estate offers a peaceful retreat with elegant rooms, flat-screen TVs, and free high-speed WiFi throughout. With the M4 and M5 motorways only 5 minutes away, getting to your favorite concert venue is quick and easy.

Why Concert-goers love it

While it’s not in the heart of the action, this hotel offers the best of both worlds: easy access to Bristol’s top venues and a quiet place to crash after a loud night. Guests love the quick drive to shows and the peaceful, forested setting that’s ideal for post-gig recovery. Late night returns are no hassle thanks to nearby roadways, and flexible check-in at 3:00 PM gives you time to settle in before the music starts.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a scenic base close to town
Solo travelers chasing a dream concert, with space to unwind
Couples wanting a romantic weekend with live music and countryside walks
Fans who need a quiet night’s sleep after the encore
Budget-conscious music lovers who appreciate value and charm

Food and Drink Options

Start your night with a meal at The Brasserie, which serves classic British dishes made from seasonal ingredients, or sip a drink on the Conservatory Bar terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the relaxed bar and restaurant setting offers a great spot to grab dinner before heading out. Breakfast is available, perfect for that slow morning after a big night.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, you’re a short drive from Bristol’s buzzing bars, clubs, and lounges. For those who prefer a low-key evening, the on-site bar serves up local drinks in a relaxed setting—ideal for winding down after a show.

What People Say

Guests rave about the beautiful grounds, peaceful atmosphere, and friendly staff. Many mention how relaxing it is to return to the countryside after a night in the city. The hotel’s traditional charm and convenient location are consistently praised.

Areas for Improvement

You may need to plan ahead for late-night snacks, as dining options shut earlier than city hotels. The drive back from town after a concert means you’ll need a car or cab—but most say the calm setting is well worth it.

The Bottom Line

A charming and peaceful stay just outside Bristol, Mercure Bristol North The Grange Hotel is perfect for concert-goers who want an easy escape from the noise without missing a beat.

Very poor

Liked: Good location.. Close to North Bristol.
Disliked: Expensive £166 for double room..Old and worn rooms, lifting carpet. Teenage prom happening downstairs, I had to walk past the prom to get to my room. Sick on stairs (probably prom related).Few staff and surely service. Overpriced basic food. I had to walk around the hotel to find staff to ask to pay as they'd vanished. No aircon in the room, I had to sleep with the window open and could hear the M5 all night nearby.

Great quiet location for the...

Liked: Our room was fine, clean and well-presented. The weather was exceedingly hot during our two day stay and a fan was provided in the room. As it was so hot, we felt the duvets provided were too hot. We could have asked for alternative summer ones. The beds were very comfortable otherwise. The breakfast provided on both days was fine. We had dinner at the hotel on both nights. Even though there was a big event going on during the second day, the kitchen provided us with a good chicken curry and the staff also kept us supplied with drinks from the bar.
Disliked: To be perfectly honest, since staying at this hotel twice in the past three years, we felt the overall appearance was in need of improvement. The decor looked tired and worn, windows needed cleaning, carpet was becoming wrinkled and worn, the large plants at the front on the bar side were dead, beds/shrubs in general seemed in need of maintenance work. It makes a customer wonder if the kitchen could also be in need of an update or complete refit perhaps? The dining room has great potential and could benefit from a facelift. The view is amazing across the lawns.

Fine for one night

Liked: Check in was easy and the room was clean and spacious. Good that there was another door to the outside for the dog.
Disliked: Complementary tea, milk and coffee was very sparce, we had to ask for more. Freely given but it would have been nice if there had been more than 2 tbags on the tray. The kettle didn't fit under the tap so you could only half fill at an angle. No main light in the bedroom, only table lamps, not so good if you are vision impaired. None of the fire doors were closed in our corridor even though they should have been.It was very noisy overnight, with doors slamming until the early hours. (Admittedly not the hotels fault) £15 for the dog for one night was a bit steep but we appreciated being able to take him.

Superb

Liked: The room was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accomodating of all our needs, including the dog!Our breakfasts were great as was an evening meal we had on our first night.
Disliked: The bathroom is a little tired in decor and facilities and could do with being modernised. However it was functional, clean and met our needs.
